"I'm done" (AFK)

Firstly, I'm MojoBubu Teemo item 1082SILVER SOLO/DUOitem 1082 item 3400 GOLD FLEXitem 3400

Was gold plat last season (sort of partial to this post).

This isn't my first time playing at the start of a season. It seems likely there is a summoner 4 of players, new and old every new season. What I'm most fascinated by the amount of people who give up. Stems from frustration, sure. It's like people look for reasons to rage. Even when we're winning.

(Spams pings, Sits near tower, Spam types about a miss play) ^ granted we're winning here, if we had been behind he would have summoner 6 his way to the base.

Okay so, above is a particular example, but I've played about 50 ranked games this season. I've noted roughly 50% of games someone is afking. (I haven't tally'd) It feels higher than normal. I was playing quite a lot about a month ago, took a break after hitting platinum waited for season. I feel like its the new season to blame for the surge of players and granted higher anxiety about placements / promos. It is just ridiculous. I find myself reporting every other game, sometimes games back to back. Yes back to back afkers. (I know I'm not alone, I've read enough posts about the same thing in the past). There is a correlation between new season and perhaps rank tiers? People in gold / getting knocked down with silver bronze players. You have skill gap differences that trigger people causing them to quit or any other reason you can think of that happens when skill gapped players are mashed up together. I understand I can climb out, but at this point it feels like such matchmaking RNG. Do I get a griefing afker.

(P.S. Are reports working? No notifications for these acutal inting afkers or even verbal abusers. I think riot is asleep, maybe they need extra help? Why not bring back the tribunal, Honor 5 players get to join tribunal maybe? Help weed through this barrage of griefing/toxic/afking/trolls)

Rank is pretty irrelevant here, afking players occur across all ranks.

I think at the beginning of the season you just have a lot of players that think, "this season will be different", and they end up getting the rude awakening that they are in-fact no better than they were last season and it wasn't "muh team" holding them back. Other players probably get dumped on in lane and feel really hopeless about continuing and would rather just go next and start over. /shrug

There did seem to be a huge burst of AFKers at season start when I was doing my placements and for the next few days.

One would think that since MMR persists you'd be playing with/against the same ELO you had been.

You are meant to AFK if you don't want to play. Riot has sent that message loud and clear.

When AFKs are this rampant...

Now understand that I don't think Riot is doing the best they can, and I only say it because this is gonna sound very defensive of Riot. I want change. So...

I think Riot needs to blame the players. The system tolerates afk, and for good reason. We, the community of League, is attributed by some as the worst among the online games. The community needs to change its attitude. Standards have to improve.

They aren't quitting playing League, the AFKers are quitting with the players in that match.

Now I'm not saying you're the problem, but are you doing all you can to encourage your allies to play it through the bad lane phase?

Until you can honestly say you're doing your part...

SIT DOWN. You don't get to set the standards and its wrong to say we have to eject AFKers like that.

just report them most afkers get instant punishment

The problem is that there is no punishment for AFK players. THE worst that happens? They get a Leave buster that takes them longer to get into the next game that they will AFK. This isn't a punishment. Not even a petty smack on the hand. AFK players and Intentional Feeders alike won't get banned because Riot doesn't care about punishing them. Riot only cares for swearing in chat. That's it. So I have came to the point where I have to accept it.

I have a friend who suggested an opt-in mode for ranked with no surrendering. My friends and I never FF in ranked because its impossible to tell if you're gonna lose even if its 20-1 maybe an enemy D/C's. It would just be lovely to play with like minded individuals who are down to play to the bitter end.

(Yet so many of you FF spammers can see the future) if you are afk'ing / griefing yourself just to win the odds that your losing prediction is right does that make you clever or just an *@$?
