The Blame Game

I just played a ranked game.

Well, I SORT OF played. For the first 5 or so minutes of the game, I was actually still on the loading screen, waiting for two players to connect to the game. Or so I thought. It turns out everyone else connected with the exception of myself and one other player on my team.

So, 8 minutes in, I FINALLY am able to connect after restarting my client several times trying to reconnect. Obviously I'm way behind, so I'm outleveled 7-1 in mid lane. I wasn't feeding or anything, wasn't having any problems farming. Once I hit 3, my jungler ganked for me and we even got a kill, despite my being way behind.

Alright, so fast forward to ~20 minutes. We're losing. Like, our nexus is wide open and the enemies are attacking it with 3 of my team dead. Two players on my team started blaming me for the loss. I explained to them that I wasn't able to connect to the game, and that I actually thought it was them who couldn't connect, according to what was shown on my loading screen. They just kept telling me I "threw" mid lane and lost us the game. First of all, I don't know how someone not being able to connect because of bugs in Riot's system is throwing a game. Second, the enemy mid laner was 1/3 at this point. He had no effect on the game.

I just want to know, first, is it actually possible for me to be punished for this? I did nothing wrong (as far as I can see), I just thought I had already connected to a game that in fact, I hadn't connected to, and was unable to for several minutes. Second, what am I supposed to say to the players that are blaming me for the loss? I had no control over whether I connected or not, I tried to connect again and again and still couldn't. I don't understand what I am to be expected to do when I'm that far behind because of lack of ability to connect to the game.

First off, it is not always a bug on Riots part. There are many different connection points between you and their servers, any of which could cause you to have either full or even partial connection problems.

Don't immediately jump to blaming Riot for connection issues.

From their reports? Only if you retaliated or was hostile/toxic in your attempts to explain your situation. If not then their report will not harm you.

LeaveBuster, however might hit you. It comes with a buffer in the case of real life emergencies, but that buffer can get used up if you leave frequently. And the buffer refreshes very slowly.

If you feel you have to say something, apologize. ONCE. Then end the conversation.

Otherwise, do not respond to toxicity. Mute, and report at the end of the match.

It's happened to me a couple times but not very often. People will look for anything and everything to blame. Sometimes I expect empathy or understanding for a situation like the one that happened to you/me, but people continue to amaze me with their ignorance/arrogance.

Yeah, that's happened to me before. I was having wifi problems, and I joined game 10 minutes in. I was the support. Our outer turret was already gone, and the adc was 1/5. I explain to them that my wifi was having problems, and EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN GAME was flaming me. We lost, because our mid laner and jungler intentionally fed.

I think the short answer is no you shouldn't and can't be punished for something like this as you did everything you could to try to play.

However you not connecting is probably the primary reason your team lost. that pressure early is huge. either the JG covers and has no pressure from ganks and gets counter jungled 24/7 or he doesn't and mid looses turrets. It isn't your fault that you didn't connect though so you shouldn't get punished. I had a similar situation where everyone in north ca was kicked of lol and my team lost 3 people for 10 min. Sometimes you get unlucky.
