Question about insistantly clicking the map.

Are you allowed to continually click the map every ten to thirty seconds?

I just played a game with someone who did just that. 3 clicks on a new target. Then within a few seconds, two clicks of warning. Then just general clicks followed by three or four clicks for assistance. Then clicks for a new target, etc, etc, etc, etc. Again and again, this person kept clicking the map. At the start of the match, I told the player "Stop spamming the map." Their response? "That's the point."

In a lot of other games I've played, this sort of thing is tolerated as long as you wait thirty seconds or so. Anything more than that is considered a violation. Is it like that here?

*edit Yes, I spelled "insistently" wrong.

Is the person genuinely trying to communicate with pings? Then yes, you are allowed to ping frequently. That doesn't guarantee you're not annoying your team of course, you can be bad at pinging just like you can be bad at any other aspect of the game.

Is the person trying to piss you off or troll with pings? Then no, that's now allowed and is reportable.

I used to report people who spammed pings incessantly because there was no way to mute those, even if they did it literally 15 times about every minute, or sometimes more. I hated that, it was just annoying, and muting them didn't mute their pings. I don't know why they do it, it seems to be out of frustration (I ping three times for MIA because sometimes people just miss it the first two times, seriously, and they yell at me about it later when they die to the roamer in question).

Having said that, "Spamming" isn't even a category anymore, I don't think, and I doubt even one person I reported for that (which wasn't many over the years, you had to really be spamming pings to annoy me to that extent, but still) was punished in any way.

What are you supposed to do, give them a ping restriction?

I ping a lot, but not without purpose, and mostly because I jungle and tend to be watching the map a whole lot. If I see a champ out of place, I'll ping the area and say who it is. I probably ping two or three times a minute on average (unless someone suddenly starts roaming or a jungler is clearly ready to gank, in which case I'll ping multiple times to avoid disaster), depending on what's actually worth noting, like roamers, enemy junglers, MIAs, if someone's trying to sneak dragon or herald or one of our buffs, etc. A lot is going on at once.

Spam is spam. Whether you are spamming chat or spamming map pings, neither one should be allowed.

I doubt anything will happen to the player in question even when he clearly stated that spamming the map was their intention.
