Is toxicity getting worse or is what people percieve as toxicity getting worse?

You can be banned for sarcasm and coming off as bossy now. That is all it takes. Let alone petty minor insults that affect no one. Seriously it is to the point where to risk talking is to risk some one taking your words wrong and being banned for it.

This game has stopped being about social fun and started becoming some kind of safe space where anything that might possibly offend anyone is more important than having fun and making friends and joking around.

I dunno man, last time I got a chat restriction was over a year ago and I took a break from the game. Came back refreshed and even with mild toxicity Riot hasn't punished me yet. By mild I mean being negative about our chances of winning or something like that. So I'd say you can be human, you just can't be inhumane. I think you have to keep in mind the degree of your toxicity doesn't solely contribute to a ban; rather, it's the frequency of your negativity that does. Which is why most mild logs have three games included, to show that there is a large spree of negativity coming from you. If I were a bit of an ass every 3 games, it would be less of a risk than going on a losing streak and just blowing up at everyone the whole time.

I agree they are getting TOO sensative and kinda unfair in many cases. The ban system SHOULD NOT BE automated and is WAY too severe somtimes and sometimes WAY too lenient. There are GROUPS of toxic players that will harass and mock and BULLY people into saying things that SEEM toxic and then report them. I have known a NUMBER of people that this happened to.

they need to make it 50% player based judging WITHOUT summoner names to make it impartial and 50% moderator judged. I think what they should do is

  1. put a case out there and randomly send 100 players a "invitation" to log into the website and judge a case. Players that are seen as more fair by the game moderators are asked more often. Once you give your verdict you get 1000 blue or orange essence.

  2. Grade the reports on severity into THREE levels. lvl 1 severity is minor insults, critisizms and so on lvl 2 is mocking verbal harassment lvl 3 is racism, homophobic comments and or harassment along with any type of racism.

  3. Once BOTH the players AND the moderators have spoken the tally FOR and AGAINST are combined and the final decision is done and punishment is given.

  4. ALL PARTICIPANTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO BE PUNISHED often a player is NORMALLY a good sport but can be PUSHED or HARASSED into BEING toxic if a group of players harassed the player into being toxic and then reported him THEY need to be punished NOT HIM.

  5. There should be two categories that are known ONLY to game moderators the "recoverable" players and the players that are SO TOXIC they can be banned without worrying about it. the "redeemable" players should be given more leeway but ONLY judged by at least THREE moderators and if it's a severe punishment the player can ask for a ONE TIME "second chance" of three DIFFERENT moderators to vote on the same situation.

EVERY situation should be treaded as a unique event because some poeple just have a bad day or run into a herd of toxic trolls in a row or even the same troll many games in a row. There should aslo be "blue essence" penalties with the ability to go into the negative.

If people are penalized blue essence or orange essence for being toxic they will be more likely to stop.

The Problem is with how far people can take any context, which in turn is where the risk and danger of being toxic/ being exposed to toxicity Comes.

People aren't this sensitive by default. But it is this contrary belief that the punishment system is flawed that makes people be more tolerant towards the Things that can be toxic. Will you believe me that legit not a single Person i have met. EVER. was Aware that false expression of authority ingame is classified as bullying and thus verbal harrassment? Only rioters have authority, and even they are VERY strictly forbidden from abusing it.

The Problem is as your title says, but with a twist that both choices of answers are actually one of the same.

People are by majority forgetting more and more the Things that count as toxicity, catch what isn't allowed wrong and thus (mostly intentionally thought) spread toxicity and make it worse. False perception of all parties is what makes toxicity worsening.

No it's pretty bad. I just have to /mute all every single game to stop myself even conidering responding to these degenerates who flame non stop for every little thing instead of playing the game or if you say anything to them they will rage and force a loss. Maybe that's just plat elo.

AirKingNeo12/22/2017, 4:46:07 AM5 votes

Criticism = Flame according to most people I see.

Trolling has become worse but toxic chat is getting better. I'm seeing fewer and fewer people ranting and raving about how awful the jungler is or how bronze someone is while they themselves are only silver or gold or some crazy homophobic racist sexist bigoted and any other kind of prejudiced speech you can think of... but I'm seeing more people stealth trolling.

Murl0ugh12/22/2017, 12:19:48 PM4 votes

I get reported regularly for daring to give advice when I think its necessary (aka they continue to get caught out of feed and never change their play at all) but they always get super defensive and act like I was threatening their mother.

I JUST SAID "We can't keep getting caught out."

I'mat the point where I'm becoming more toxic because I can't take people throwing my games for me than acting like a smartass with me in the in-game chat when I try to either make them a better player or save the game.

People need to stop being so damn defensive over every little thing. ITS OK TO NOT BE A GOD IN FUCKING SILVER 5. Its ok to listen to someone's advice without inting or telling them they are dumb or whatever.

Its no wonder this game fuels toxicity. I can barely take it anymore and I'm a fairly chill dude irl.

Troll for Trump12/22/2017, 10:52:38 AM4 votes

The oversensitivity has been horrible ever since they automated things and started completely ignoring context.

Tradeoff was faster punishment, and a more streamlined system.

The Tribunal would use context and in that way be more accurate in weeding out the true toxic people, but due to lack of use and # of trolls/farmers, there would be false punishments. Because it relied on players, the system would be slow, so people would feel that their reports weren't doing anything. There weren't enough tribunal users to deal with all the reports.

The automated system can handle it, and is thus indefinitely better, even though I disagree with ignoring context and zero-tolerance policies. There are prices for automation.

There are toxic players and there are some players that make me actually love the game

Some players may have a bad day and then gets frustrated I was one of those guys but then I found out that it will never helps no matter what if you flame in the game or give up

I've seen people say gg at first blood or flame you because you played something out of meta like ezreal jungle when it first came out

Sometimes you are forced to die if there are 3 mid every 3 seconds and iam having a bad matchup like velkoz vs fizz or zed I must die like ever 1 min but instead of the jungle helps me out or the bot lane started to ss that damn blitz that comes mid every time I would do better but that is the problem some people just rather blame and flame than actually go for the win

Perception, obviously. I don't know how much worse it has actually gotten in League recently as its community is about as sensitive as you can get, but the thought of being banned for calling someone "bad" in any other online game I've ever played would be considered laughable and absurd. Only in League have I ever seen players believe things like that being ban worthy.

Hexs Fortune12/22/2017, 7:38:25 AM3 votes

I want to say the game is getting better, but I keep running into report worthy individuals

Guy who holds champs hostage then tries to bribe teammates over the champ they highlight "How bad do you want Evelynn"

Guy who freaks out over ganks and afks/ flames the rest of the game

Guy who announces he's going to int because he wants the game to end quickly as he doesn't enjoy taric jungle as much as he thought he would..

The list goes on and on.

NorthernRedStar12/22/2017, 8:00:56 AM3 votes

When people can't vent in chat, they start stealth trolling and passive inting - both ways Riot is unable to punish.

So overall, the game's actually becoming worse, as the mute function won't save you from aforementioned 'coping' mechanics.

xGunna112/22/2017, 5:40:18 PM3 votes

riot should make chat disabled by default and stop banning people about flaming cuz everyone can flame back or mute

only ban trolls

Onandaga12/22/2017, 5:58:19 PM2 votes

Personally I'm glad to see that salty players are getting the punishment they deserve. There is really no excuse for souring other people's games by calling them trash and handing out all sorts of other insults. Its basic human manners that everyone should of been taught in school and/or their parents. If someone is playing poorly and/or annoying you, you either restrain yourself from the chat box and suck it up or flame and accept the consequences that come after.

lnsaneeez12/22/2017, 8:16:50 PM2 votes

Yeah, basically the game has become antisocial. Like why would you speak to someone and risk getting banned when u can just be quiet and enjoy your free honor stuff?

OniZetsu66612/23/2017, 5:02:39 AM2 votes

Personally...a lot of the people that come onto the fourms to show how they got perma banned is well...quite frankly stupid. Someone calls someone a moron "oh no that's sooo toxic" PERMA BAN! "Our support is flaming us and we need help and they are letting us die report please" "Oh you cant tell someone to report someone else that's harassment!" PERMA BAN! And yeah I know their policy for their bans but its not justice. The punishment doesn't fit the crime. ESPECIALLY when a lot of these people don't really do much harm. And generally people get the idea that if you say this you are yourself toxic. Well I am not. Never in any online game have I gotten into trouble for toxicity and I actually often have gotten praised by my teammates for having a good attitude and or defending a teammate that was being harassed. Also if you think that alot of these things are punishable...let me tell you a little story I have of when I was playing Paladins. (dont have to read but it could help you get a gauge of my perspective)

Now boys and girls if you dont know paladins is 100x more toxic and reports actual don't do anything. So its basically a free for all. Ah how wonderful. Now I rember that this is when the map brightmarsh just came out. In comp we had a tank(inara) two supports (myself as ying and a seris) a flank (skye) and damage (viktor) now if you havent played paladins you wouldnt know that we have a two tank meta...so right from the get go this guy was flaming us for having a second support..our seris. So what did he do? He got on the mic and constantly called us both stupid and the N word the entire 30 minute match. He espeically got mad when he died to an ult (mind you he only died three times to an ult that you cannot be saved from) and then he was screaming into the mic that we were imbread trash needed to go die because we wouldnt produce anything but N***** babbies that were just as uselss as we were. I wish I was joking. But this low life human being actually exists. Oh and want some salt on the wound? When we won the game at the end he said for everyone to report us and that he did all of the work...oh boy he didnt even look at the scoreboards to see that I got top healing and Seris was just under me. That is actual toxicity. That is actually perma ban worthy. Not just calling someone a moron. You can just laugh that off like "yeah what ever buddy keep saying that it will get you far" and you move on. If he continues to act like that just chat restrict him. He isn't being toxic he is just being a distraction to the game and banning him is not really needed. I am afraid to say anything in this game now. I cant make a joke without fear that someone will take it the wrong way. I cant tell someone to leave someone else alone if they are harassing them. You cant tell someone what they are doing wrong without being called bossy and being reported. You cant do anything. Your player base should not be afraid to use the chat. Why should we be afraid to talk to people in a game where fun is ment to be had. Its not fun riot. Fun does not equal fear from the people who are ment to be protecting you when you are hurting the players more. I came into this game with high hopes after D day with paladins and honestly...you have disappointed me riot. I am not expecting the game or anything else like that to be perfect but this is saddening. I heard great things about you and I am realizing that they are no longer true.

aZaBoy12/24/2017, 12:08:06 AM1 votes

I’ve honestly been scared out of using chat for most cases. When I do say anything in chat that isn’t 100% positive/supportive I have to use such awful wording, otherwise it may be seen as toxicity.

I tried to list one of the boxes in an item build of mine as "Full Crit" but the F and U got blanked out with * because...you know...F U is an online abbreviation for a curse; and no I do not have chat filter on...that alone should tell you how far left and PC this company is ...wheres my safe space from riots hyper sensitivity crap?

dude Im scared to type anything on chat, 1 wrong word and you get chat ban or 2 week ban, I don't even want to remind to never type ''kys'' on chat. I said it to my premade friend when he stole my kill and got banned for 2 weeks. It's all due to bot reading your chat logs not real players or rioter, if he finds 1 bad word you're pretty much fu**ed :(
