Why do we allow it to continue?
There's no need in this game to use the N-word. EVER.
Why isn't it an instant 7 day ban?
At current it's every 3-5 games I see this pop up.

Riot has been known to escalate punishments in extreme cases.

Just because you don't see the pop-up that someone has been punished doesn't mean that were not punished at all.

Not everyone is using as hate speech. They're using it as a term they don't truly understand because they think it's funny to say it... You need to chill out dude. It's not ok to say it but you really shouldn't be debating this on a gaming forum. I see you arguing with people who are defending you as well. It's a little obnoxious. I hope a red sees this thread and takes it down. It's baiting and inflaming community members. Race is a very sensitive topic apparently. Even though we're all the same species genetically. It's literally just a way for people who want to use labels. It's the same as identifying someone by their sexual orientation or whether or not they've had gender reassignment. You can't control people, they're going to do what they want. Riot isn't going to moderate every individual case brought to them either, that would be a waste of time. Eventually the ban bot will see them slip up in game, someone will report them, and hopefully they will get banned. There are far too many people to moderate individually.

I'm not baiting or inflaming. People have put up some comments to a post I wrote that I respond to and believe that my responses help clarify my original position. That position is: Racism is wrong. The N-word should yield an instant 7 day suspension. I take this very seriously because it's absurd that it's tolerated and I hope that we can change our system in the hope to make the game better because it doesn't contain this ONE word.
Honestly, it just seems like you're trying to scare me into stopping the debate or offer excuses for why RIOT does what they do and doesn't do the extra, and in my opinion needed, step.

Although, in a MAJORITY of context's those sexist and homophobic slurs should yield instant suspensions. Not bans for first offenses, I think the quick, adequate punishment of 7 days without the game you enjoy because you were a bigot is enough but that future transgressions should be dealt with equally as harsh.
To illustrate my point, I offer this example:
There is NO CONTEXT WHATEVER where the N-word is not a degrading, demeaning word meant to belittle and hurt another person. This is proven in the simple definition and in it's use in society.
Certain sexist and homophobic slurs have dual meanings. A bundle of sticks, a cigarette, a female dog... I hope you understand my meaning. That DOES NOT excuse their behavior or use of those kind of words when the context is the same as the N-word.
I'd like to clarify that I'm not against cursing. I'm against using words of slavery, oppression and bigotry where their context is purely meant to be hateful. As defined, @ssh0le means irritating when used as a derogatory word. No harm there, it's just crude. Fack, literally means "to ruin" and when you ask "where the f@ck are you going?" you imply that where they are going would ruin them. Again, nothing innately wrong with these words and if substituted with their definitions innately neutral.
The N-word is innately hateful. It's racist to use it or to tolerate it's use.

Homophobic slurs and racial slurs all attack something about someone they cannot control. Thus these words should all come with a zero tolerance policy

Hate Speech as it relates to Race, Ethnicity, Religion, Sexuality or Gender shouldn't be tolerated. We can easily see these words are negative in the extreme and should be removed with extreme prejudice from our community. There should be instant justice. We can automate a suspension for using hate speech. It's not a matter of whether it should be done but why it hasn't been done. Fast track the suspension or banning of people who use hate speech. ReadyxPlayerxOne1 votesI'm fully aware of what you were referring to and understand that you're inferring that in what is essentially another language and with a different spelling and inference that the two words are capable of holding different definitions because they are in fact different words. It's argued, effectively, that changing spelling or pronunciation of a word as it relates to the words social context does nothing to change the true, wider accepted definition of that word. The word means what it means. Forming a group that chooses to accept an alternative definition of a word does not change the fact that the word is the single most recognizable form of hate speech and has no place in our game.
Very simply, the word is racist in any possible way you use it. Regardless of the inferred definition it is hate speech or tolerance of hate speech to use the word and we should eradicate it from our chats.

Not that I agree with it, and tbh it makes me uncomfortable when I hear it, but I have felt that it's a little different, as in people have tried to forge a more positive meaning. For instance, I myself am gay, and take being called a f$g to be sheer flattery. But, I have seen where you are, and recognize you as one of the rare select few who visit these boards with legitimate concerns. For that I offer you a

ReadyxPlayerxOne1 votesGreat comment. I do realize, in certain subcultures, there is a place for any word and as a rule can't be banned from that group choosing to use it. Were I a friend, I could joke with you about being gay (even though I wouldn't use the word %%%) and I can understand there's a group that may choose to attach another definition to a word. The people who we game with on a daily basis though from game to game aren't friends. As players we don't share a lengthy camaraderie that would transcend the boundaries of sex or race.
I'm fairly understanding as well. I would consider myself a follower of George Carlin and think words are words and we can f@cking use them because they're great f@cking words to use. But I think there's a context and place for certain words. Places like a Mark Twain novel, or in NWA lyrics or between a few friends that understand the meaning the imply to the word is not hateful. I don't think it benefits our community in ANY way to allow the N-word to exist here. It's that simple. I think there's just too many people here to allow any exception to the rule when it comes to this word.
As the League community is 100's of millions of players, I can't justify the tolerance of racism because of the exception to the rule. I think it's more reasonable to use the definition and most widely understood social understanding of the word. Which in this case would make the word pure, unadulterated hate speech.

For those that "don't know" you're not supposed to do it then they get off the 7 day suspension and know not to do it again.
This word is far beyond just an insult and you know it. And yes, people do switch to other insults and vulgarities when certain ones are banned. I'm completely OK with tossing around words like @ssh0le and dumb@ss (I'm a fan of vulagarity and the many uses of those words), but I am NEVER OK with blatant racism. And I think it's wrong you try to justify it and justify the tolerance of such a word.

Do you know how many times I've been called every racial, sexist, degrading term in multiple languages in this game? I Don't ever report them because I just don't care. Once you come to terms with the reality that everyone, no matter the gender, skin tone or sexual preference are all horrible people and that we as a species are flawed in so many ways; that it is only normal to degrade others to make ourselves feel better, you will be much happier. But this just some advice from someone who may be a sociopath.

Just because you don't allow their negativity to effect you doesn't give them the right to use this word. There's a system in place that can easily accommodate this change and I think we should make the change. Do I personally allow their negativity to effect me? No. Do I sit idly by and let those who wish to oppress and denigrate my friends, my community and myself? No.

Reporting rarely does anything, I've seen HUNDREDS of people like that, _they never get banned I'm with you, I think it's should be an instant ban.
This is something i've been pushing for a LONG LONG time. Riot doesn't care, they will lose too much of their community if they ban the racists. There's too many racists that play their game _

I also don't agree that there's "nothing {you} can do about it". This post is proof that there IS something I can do about it. I have reported people. I just got out of a game that I reported people for using racist speech. I also agree that I see it too often and therefore am asking for the punishment in this particular case be expedited.
I don't believe that our community would diminish in size to any noticeable amount by banning this word. I hope you feel differently in the future. It really seems like you've given up when we should be hopeful.

That's how i felt before when all I used to do was get the most toxic people I encounter and submit tickets about them. It ruined the game for me really badly. Also it made me even more toxic because I never saw them getting banned ever.

A word that's akin to saying you're the color of a cookie and adding a y on the end of the word white is the same as using a slur used to describe a race of people that endured slavery for hundreds of years... Yeah... totally in the same ballpark... completely comparable.... Are you kidding me?
There are MANY contextual circumstances for the word cracker. There's less for whitey. But if they're used in the context of hate speech, I think the same restrictions should apply and at current, hate speech IS punishable and those words when used as such are punished. I'm suggesting for the single most hateful word in the English language to be dealt with swiftly and harshly in an effort to eradicate it from a community that doesn't need it.
I'd like to point out that this post is my attempt to "do something about it yourself". The quote and your parenthetical explanation of the quote, I believe, are much more inclined to be what I am doing. How are you displeased with my post? How are you doing something about it yourself? By making poor analogies and assuming that I'm asking RIOT to "baby" me when instead I'm using the proper channels to institute reform? I think you completely missed the boat.
I am displeased with RACISM in a regulated online community that has opened forums to that community to debate the merits and implementation of their regulation. I am doing something about it by posting, hoping to get enough notice, that more severe behavioral penalties are issued to people who use a blatantly RACIST word.

He simply states that, well, we either have a zero racism policy (as in no words like n word or whitey or cracker (used in negative context of any kind)) or we ignore it. Now, this should also affect other negativities such as homophobic slurs. They should all be treated equally. Every word, but the system should also check for context. He isn't a troll, he is pointing out what he thinks are valid points. It seems by his comment, that he has zero support for racism utilizing any word or race. Just my two cents

Since you brought it up. I don't think that every word should be on the 7 day suspension list. For reasons such as dual meanings, contextual ambiguity and inability to determine intonation through chat. These words ARE still hateful and when meaning, context and intonation can be derived from pattern analysis (as RIOT does) then the punishment should be issued and currently seems to be happening to an extent. I think the N-word is an exception to that. I don't think there's any different meaning, context or intonation for this word other than it to be a vile form of hate speech. In the scope of the game there's no reason this word should be used. Perhaps there are other words to consider as well, but I'm making my case for this word.
