can't riot do a better job with their punishment system

we all know the whole thing with flagged words and chat, we've heard the stories about people trolling in hundreds of games but not using chat... riot automatically bans hundreds of people pretty much only for chat even though there's a mute button, sometimes justified sometimes falsely

there's many trolls and toxic people who don't use swears or slurs so they don't get banned when they deserve to, do you think there could be any better system that doesn't ban hundreds of people automatically daily and ban people for doing things that don't involve chat? it would have to be manual, but someone can have hundreds of reports but never use chat and not get banned until there's some reddit post on them... are there too many reports for riot to manually review some bans? i might have some bias here because i got banned when i think i wasn't being toxic but I think riot can get some moderators viewing player reports, they can't view everyone that gets reported but if someone gets reported many times, can't riot go through a few dozen or a few hundred accounts a day manually?

Riot does go through a few hundred manually each day. There's a whole team whose main job is to audit the punishment systems and ensure they're behaving appropriately.

Maybe people you're thinking are "obviously" trolling aren't so obvious when looked at from a neutral third-party eye?

There are 3 systems in play when it comes to punishment;

  • Leavers buster
  • can detect people just clicking around the fountain
  • no notifications given
  • Verbal
  • There are actually 2 systems here
  • doesn't always give notification
  • Gameplay
  • can currently only automatically detect easy cases of inting.
  • has a manual review
  • only notifications for the automated part of the system

Riot knows that their gameplay detection is not at it's best, so they do manually review troll cases. They juat have a pretty big back log and sometimes it takes 2 weeks for someone to get to review a case.
