How I diffuse a toxic teammate (does this make me a bad person?)

Me: Well, I have Netflix, so you guys have fun. mutes flamer and everyone else

I then turn on an episode of Friends or any generic fun show that I don't have to watch to understand on my laptop, and watch it as I play.

While this is happening, I still keep playing to the best of my ability of course. I don't afk, but I stay more passive and make less risky plays. If I can't finish a play on my own, I don't do it. This is how I untilt myself, and I keep playing. Does this make me a bad person? If you were a neutral person in my team, would you mind me untilting in this manner, as opposed to still not saying anything, but playing a lot worse due to being tilted?

All I can think of is that your mention of "Netflix" does kind of sound like you're going AFK, and depending on how the game proceeds from there, you might seem like you're actively trolling. Keep in mind that "AFK farming" is punishable, and if you happened to immediately get cheesed a few times by the other team, you could appear to be intentionally feeding in retribution.

I think the better solution would be to do what you need to do to un-tilt, such as tossing Friends on and playing more passively, just without announcing it in chat.

The best way is to jokingly take the blame for everything when a teammate is being flamed. This doesn't work if you are the one being flamed, but it can save others from being tilted. For example, I'm playing support and my jungler screws up giving the enemy top lane first blood. Top lane says, "you're trash, get out of my lane" to which I respond, "sorry, I could have played that better." The hilarity of their confusion as to why you are apologizing to the top laner for a failed gank even though you were still in bottom lane is always worth it. This also usually stops any further flaming.

Well, whilst I would definitely pick something else to watch, I would most certainly do the same thing without announcing it like Jo0o mentioned.

Idk it sounds weird, but probably I wouldn't care. As long as you still participate in teamfights and don't afk farm. It is a lot about phrasing it you know. What you may say here is not necessary interpreted right by reasonable person.
