How does ranked measure skill?

if you have people on your team AFK in base after the first 5-10 minutes?? It happens frequently enough that it brings into question the legitimacy of this "ranked" system. I play support teemo and about 25% of my losses have a player on my team afk in base.

posting because i have to be missing something about how ranked works.

Hate speech posters about Teemo need not reply.

Statistically enemies have more chances to have afk than you, because as minimum you are not the one who afk Same for "bad players".

It doesn't. That's the entire problem with it. It only measures whether or not you achieve the condition necessary to see a victory logo.

I don't even understand how ranked works in general, I was tempted to start rank but since I never done them don't wanna get an afk player and get placed in bronze or iron :/

It doesn't. Riot ensures a 50% win rate for everyone so if you can avoid typing too much and keep playing all the time, you'll eventually climb. My problem is that I don't hold my tongue and conform to riots snowlfake policy, so ill be hardstuck forever. Just remember that this game is designed to make money above all else.

The ranked system is busted in general

Good players win more often than bad players. That is the premise.

Some problems are the inconsistency of humans and the extremely small sample size.
