I had four Leaves in two days and got Leaverbuster'd. Here's how!

I've been playing since S2 (2010?) and have never had a problem with Leaving before. I often encourage my teammates to keep trying in bad games, I don't argue or troll, and try to generally stay positive and remain playing calmly.

FYI: I do NOT live in an area affected by hurricane Irma, and therefore, likely outages. FYI: I have had about 2000+ games with no Leaves and have had the same ISP the whole time.

======== Leave #1: ========

On a normal, sunny day, my ISP, who I normally have had good experience with, cut out in the middle of a ranked game. I normally get good ping with my ISP (about 40!) and I pretty much never experience connection drops. I frantically try and reset my cable modem, to no avail. My connection stays offline for about an hour.

Would you have been able to avoid this leave? -- You would've needed to be clairvoyant and merely mentally predicted that the connection was going to drop for about an hour. I am not clairvoyant, unfortunately.

======== Leave #2: ========

Later that same day, an hour or so after the first connection drop, it comes back on. Cool! Whatever hiccup my ISP had is now resolved. I mess around on Facebook for a while, and get back on League eventually. I play one game, and we win. I'm feeling a little better now, because I've made up for the lost LP, and, I can start rebuilding my now tarnished track record of playing 2000+ games without Leaves. I play a second game. Ten minutes in, my ISP cuts out again. Frantically, I try and reset my modem again, and again, to no avail. It stays off for another hour. That's the second "Leave" in one day.

So, I get the impression that my ISP is simply having issues today. Something is wrong. I don't play anymore League for that day. It's still the morning, and, my connection had returned (and never dropped again) in the afternoon, but still, I didn't play any more games, in fear it would drop me again. No... I'll just stay off League, and give them the whole day to fix whatever the issue is.

Would you have been able to avoid this leave? -- Imagine, your connection goes out. After an hour, it comes back on. Mind you, it is a sunny, nice a day outside... No storms. Would you have assumed that your connection is going to go out again after about an hour of being fine? Or would you have assumed the problem was fixed?

======== Leave #3: ========

The next day, I see that my connection is still fine. It's been fine, now, for about 24 hours. I play another ranked, and we win. Great. I try to play another one. Ten minutes in, my connection goes out for another hour. Mind you, this is after the connection had been fine for a whole day.

Now I'm extremely upset. I call my ISP and get a recording.

"It looks like there is an internet outage in your area, and our technicians are doing everything they can to fix the problem as soon as they can. Our representatives won't be able to give you any more information about the outages."

Even though the recording tells me they don't want to talk to me about outages, I still want to ask them, and I plan to ask them this:

"Hi, I know that the recording said the reps won't be able to give any more info on the outages, but -- My connection CAME BACK, and then went out again. If my connection comes back on again sometime, how will I know that it'll not just go out again an hour later? How can I know when the problem is actually fixed?"

I choose the option to speak to a representative. The recording then reiterates itself: "So, you'd like to speak to a representative, is that right? Again -- the representatives will have no further information for you about your current outage. Would you still like to speak to one?"

They've told me, twice, not to ask to reps about the outages. They are making me feel like an ass about it before I even ask. I hang up, never speaking with a rep.

Would you have been able to avoid this leave? -- Connection issues yesterday were bad, ay? Darn, two leaves... That sucked! Today is a new day, and they've had 24 hours to fix the problem. Connection seems fine now! So, would you have assumed that it's just going to go out again, even a day after the initial problem? Or would you have assumed that since they had 24h to fix it, and since it's working fine currently, that you're safe to play?

======== Leave #4: ========

Same day (day two). After the third leave, the connection comes back on again. I'm extremely skeptical that it will stay on at this point, so I call my ISP again to ask a rep ("Hey, are you SURE the problem is fixed?"). I get the recording. This time, it's a new recording, though, with a cheerful tone! "Good news! We've fixed the outages in your area and you should experience no further interruptions in service, and we apologize for the inconvenience."

THANK YOU!

I play one ranked. We win! Great. I play another ranked. MY CONNECTION GOES OUT FOR ANOTHER HOUR, MAKING THAT THE FOURTH LEAVE IN A SPAN OF TWO DAYS.

Would you have been able to avoid this leave? -- After you did the responsible thing and called your ISP to verify its status, and were told, by your ISP, that the problem is fixed, would you have been like, "Nah, I don't trust you." ? Be honest.

Of course I get Leaverbuster'd.

Abandoning a match or being AFK results in a negative experience for your teammates, and is a punishable offense in League of Legends. You've been placed in a lower priority queue.

Partially my problem is that this is toned in such a way that there is zero possibility that I'm innocent. Yes, I'm clearly abandoning games and deserve to be punished. There's a zero percent chance that -- after having played 2000+ games with no Leaves -- and then getting four leaves in two days -- ZERO PERCENT CHANCE that this was some freak occurrence not within my control.

I'm not so concerned about the punishment itself, having to wait 5 min before a round doesn't bother me much. I take issue that it accuses me of intentionally ruining games, and I take issue with the fact that this will probably put me on some sort of probation, such that if something else ever happens, like the power going out on my block, I fear I might get temp banned or something.

Unlucky.

I've partially just made this to vent, but partially to document exactly how these four Leaves occurred, in interest of not wanting to lose my account.

Something something doesn't matter something something

Regardless of how unfair the system is, it's not going to change out of fear of being abused in some way, shape, or form. Do I think you, or anyone else for that matter, who 'leaves' a game due to any sort of connection problem should be accused of or punished for leaving a game? No. But will it still happen regardless? Yes

I didn't read all that, but yeah, 4 leaves in 2 days = leaverbuster sounds about right. The reasons for your leaves doesn't matter at all, that's why I'm saying this without reading all of your post.
