Censorship- a public good.

What up, fellow leaguers!

I see people come on here a lot and bang out something along the lines of "chat-banned?? rito b censoring me yo!!"

Whether what Riot Games chooses to do is "censorship" is dubious (censorship is preventative medicine, like a vaccine, while chat-bans are more like antibiotics), but that's beside the point.

Lemme toss in my two cents and lay out what the point is, for your consideration, dear readers:

Censorship is a loaded term. People treat it like a dirty word, and fall back on their thought-terminating cliches that "censorship is bad", or "censorship=book burning", etc. Censorship is just a tool, like any other. It can benefit public safety, public health, and is a particularly effective form of "public morals" law.

Life shouldn't be a free-for-all, and even the most utopian vision for society will involve censorship, albeit by another name.

Don't be resentful of the idea of censorship.

oh yeah, & when's olaf gonna get that nerf? ;D

lol, censorship is bad period. If you believe that words is hurting a persons health then you have bigger issues, and need to be an emotionally stronger person. There is not a historical example of censorship ever being good or working in any form except with a call to action. Also since they have started their ban bot their numbers are falling, I am a game hardware and software developer and buy the analytic reports so yes I do know the actual numbers of most areas of many games not all but a good amount and League of Legends is losing a lot of players finally. Before players would just create another account and stay toxic so your medicine analogy is bad considering they would come right back (the truly toxic players) however now the players with minor infractions are leaving and the number of new players are slowing. But hey let's keep pandering to the emotionally unstable over sensitive snow flakes who can't just push the mute button when they hear something they don't like they have to go further and ban the people. Banning and mute is redundant use one or the other.

Anyway have at me fan boys honestly don't care I won't be back to check this i'm done with the game after getting a ban for inting while I wasn't came back to the game after a long break was bad got a ban for inting where their system is causing my character not to move at times even while I can see others moving using abilities and attacking me in real time not even like a lag spike, and before you blame me I have EPB 1 gig internet and a high end computer I just bought this year so no it's not on my end and i'm not the only one having this problem so yes riots ban bots are far far over the top and the pc nature of the game is chasing people off who are not even toxic this is a fact stats don't lie and they don't care about your feelings so deal with it this game is on the decline unless they change things. So like I said have at me fan boys you're too dense to realize your defending riot is leading to the decline faster instead of encouraging them to fix their failings. I won't be back to check this so have fun flaming me!

This is how far gone the people on these boards are. Advocating censorship, even inferring that censorship is necessary. A firm reality check is in order for the people that play this game and complain about "toxicity." You don't get to control other people.

Riot can censor if they want, which they are doing, but in the end it will only reteach a lesson learned over and over again through the course of human history. It doesn't work. I think they should censor and ban those who participate in hate speech, as it alienates others. Banning people for saying "you suck at this game" is going way too far.

These forums are called "player behavior," yet any behavior other than negative chat is accepted and excused away. People will claim trolls and afkers aren't a problem and Riot can't possibly do anything about them anyways. It's gotten so ridiculous it's laughable except when viewed as a thought experiment. I honestly don't know how people get through life worrying about what others say all of the time. It's like listening to pre-teen siblings, "they called me this, they called me that!!" No parent in their right mind even acknowledges this crap, otherwise it will be a constant cycle of telling and punishment.

To make it short, ban people who say the n-word, or other equivalents. Stop banning people for chat and start banning people for afking or trolling and ruining games. It's clear the playerbase is bleeding out, and banning people left and right isn't helping. They got a big kick out of banning LoL's biggest youtuber, and look how that is turning out. Power tripping authority figures are the worst of the worst, and they end up shooting themselves in the foot more often than not.
