Lots of people including myself believe the system is way to lax. I strongly believe the system should be greatly increased. Yes Riot will never increase the system to ban more people because it means less revenue for them, but they are working on other systems to fight the problem another way.
As I have said in other posts and change Riot makes must pass 2 things. 1. It can not overall reduce LoL player base. ( The system today only bans people who are so toxic they would cause more people to quit and it is a net gain to ban them, than to let them continue to play) 2. It can not reduce the probability of revenue.
So Riot has to find a way to fight toxicity without making alot of people quit and reducing their revenue. Riot says 8% of their player base are toxic and that is their extreme definition, but we all know a safe estimate is 75% of all games have some form of toxicity. This takes place before, during, or after in the post game all chat. Their AI system only looks at chat in game which of course does not help.
I believe Riot is look Riot is working on two new systems to try to fight toxicity without breaking the two rules above. Of course this was before being completely bought out by Tencent so we shall see if they are implemented.
_1. Last year Socrates announced that Riot was at one point working on a new system for ranked known as Ranked Restrictions. If this has been implemented at any capacity I have never heard of anyone mentioning its existence or have seen it myself. The idea is for the system to disable chat for toxic or negative players and restricts or prevents them from logging into ranked queues. I assume for X amount of time. _
Again in some ways this could work to help encourage the 8% to reform if they want to play ranked. Again whether this system works or not will completely depend on Riots definition of Toxcicity. Will they keep the extreme 8% definition today or will they make adjustments and look to try to reform many more players and look to get that 75% of toxic games number down?
- We found out I believe in November that Riot at one point was working on a new crafting and loot system that would exclude toxic players.
We dont have any dates, or features or anything to that, but we do know that at one point (could of been scrapped by Tencent) that Riot was looking at implementing a system to reward players who act like human beings. Who knows what content the crafting system will include, but the idea is if you get through a game without being toxic, than you get a reward which can be used to craft.
The success of the system completely comes down to whether again Riot is just looking at excluding the 8% or if they plan on being much more inclusive and go after all toxic players in every game. I would like to see them implement a system in which you get crafting material for every game you complete without being toxic. If you are toxic than you are put on probation and dont get crafting material for your next 2 games. If you cant make it through 2 games without being toxic than the penalty should be compounding.
Anyway none of Riots planned changes will have any effect whatsoever if their AI system used for identifying toxicity is the same one they use today which only catches the 8%. They need to be catching every harassment comment that takes place in chat. I get it they cant ban 50% of their player base, but this crafting system gives them a possible carrot to hang in front of people who act like people while they play.
In reality the only people who voice complaints about Riot trying to fight toxicity are those who do it. Plane and simple. The Tribunal is gone. The days of players judging players is no more. It is an AI computer which judges everyone. Is it perfect? no. But Riot was not comfortable with how many people were getting punished in the Tribunal so they moved to this. The truth is if you get banned, you did something and you said something plain and simple. It doesnt matter who talked first or who punished who in the face first. If the toxic player reports you at the end of the match and you said something that was technically against the rules, it does not matter that you didn't start it.
