Chat restriction part of a bigger problem.

So I wanna talk about not only my chat restriction, but the way riot games handles bans and chat restrictions.

So to provide some context to the following match: I was in a game 2 botlaners who were clearly trying to throw the game, running it down their lanes. Now usually I do not talk in chat because i have a script which prevents me from typing in chat while playing LoL. I had enough of people throwing my ranked match queues on purpose, with me basically being hardstuck plat 3 because of throwers. So for the first time in a very very long time I blew some steam off in chat. Only this one game. Game 1 In-Game TheFlyingBaluga: yo TheFlyingBaluga: lb TheFlyingBaluga: fucking wake up TheFlyingBaluga: aight bot TheFlyingBaluga: plz stop feeding TheFlyingBaluga: thats 5 kills in 5 minutes TheFlyingBaluga: fuck bot TheFlyingBaluga: useles TheFlyingBaluga: fucking feeders TheFlyingBaluga: mi TheFlyingBaluga: garbage TheFlyingBaluga: top is only fucking hope TheFlyingBaluga: and he gets countered TheFlyingBaluga: 7 deaths in 6 minutes TheFlyingBaluga: you fucking morons TheFlyingBaluga: feeding your fucking asses TheFlyingBaluga: pure example TheFlyingBaluga: just gonna report you idiots TheFlyingBaluga: bot TheFlyingBaluga: quit league TheFlyingBaluga: please TheFlyingBaluga: fuck you guys TheFlyingBaluga: Why do i get degerates mid and bot legit every game i play solo TheFlyingBaluga: bot is running it down TheFlyingBaluga: there we go again TheFlyingBaluga: Read what you just wrote TheFlyingBaluga: Then make a case of how you're not completely braindead TheFlyingBaluga: Because you are too fucking stupid to make a coherent fucking sentence TheFlyingBaluga: open mid TheFlyingBaluga: x9 botlane TheFlyingBaluga: 17 deaths in less than 17 minutes TheFlyingBaluga: You cant say that isnt running it down TheFlyingBaluga: No look at their match history TheFlyingBaluga: they're throwers TheFlyingBaluga: Mid was trash bot is trash and throwers

Yes i understand being toxic in general is against the rules and that I was in this case. But my problem with this is that there is no warning, no way to really stop yourself if you're already heated "Like having the ability to turn chat off in order to prevent yourself from typing". There nothing there to prevent you from being toxic in the following match. So here's a few thing that can be done to prevent you from being toxic.

1: We do not get a warning. Imagine how much better you would be if you got a warning after the match that was like "Hey, you were negative last match, try taking a break in order to be more positive in game".

2: The ability to turn off chat completely. This would help people who just can't stop themselves from typing in a game. Just this very simple and small thing would have a huge impact on how toxic a person would be.

Another problem i have with the game is that once you get banned, there's really nothing encouraging you to stop being toxic. It's already proven in the American justice system that chat banning (or sending someone to prison), does not reduce the chance of that same person committing that same crime. It works to keep you in the system for a very long time. As an example, It took me 5-6 months just to get back to honor level 2. I played hundreds of games, I slip up only a SINGLE game and immediately i'm put back into the system, forced to go again another 5-6 months until i get thrown back in. Somethings to fix this is:

3:There needs to be more of a incentive to not be toxic, keys and chest work well for that. (I would like to see a "Reformed" emote Lol). As you progress through each level of honor, there should be something there to tell you to keep going, that it's not a long way off and that you can do it.

4: The length at which it takes someone to restore their honor is crazy. It takes months and hundreds upon hundreds of games. The length of time that it takes to rank up in honor will literally make you forget that it exist. But the funny part is, after those hundreds of games you played, it takes only 1, 15 minute match to get you banned and completely reset your progress. How is that fair to anyone?

So how would you guys change the system, or would you change the system. How do you feel about my opinion or few suggestions. What would you add to help out the game, since LoL is known to have the most toxic community in gaming.

1: We do not get a warning. Imagine how much better you would be if you got a warning after the match that was like "Hey, you were negative last match, try taking a break in order to be more positive in game".

This used to be a thing, but was removed due to unnecessarily stressing (innocent) people out and creating confusion, which led to a lofty increase in support tickets.

2: The ability to turn off chat completely. This would help people who just can't stop themselves from typing in a game. Just this very simple and small thing would have a huge impact on how toxic a person would be.

While it sounds good in theory, I don't think it would be as effective when put to the test. People would simply resort to other forms of illicit behaviour to vent their anger (intentional feeding, for example) whilst under this restriction. The chat itself isn't the problem. Riot knows that deactivating the chat doesn't work - the chat is a symptom, not the problem.

To put it simply: people start trolling when they cannot flame.

Another problem i have with the game is that once you get banned, there's really nothing encouraging you to stop being toxic.

Not losing your account should be a pretty good incentive to prevent you from causing any further destruction (if we're talking about all punishment tiers before the permanent one).

Receiving a permanent suspension isn't meant to reform you or motivate you to stop being toxic. It is Riot's way of telling you to find another game to play, because your behaviour isn't welcome in League of Legends.

4: The length at which it takes someone to restore their honor is crazy.

Gaining honour is meant to be a time consuming process, even more so when you're trying to prove that your behaviour has improved. Otherwise, it would completely defeat the purpose of having a high honour standing.

You were kind of a drama queen in chat during that match. Blowing things out of proportion and accusing others of inting. Granted I am looking at the Udyr game of yours.

There is something, you. I actually just had to deal with some unpleasant people at work. Was doing my job and carded them. Forced them to cash out, as they kept playing after failing to produce IDs. Went through the whole "I'm gonna complain" spiel and insulting me cause of size. I am usually real quick to shut people up when they run there mouths, however I am on the clock and bit my tongue. Paid them out and simply told them to leave. Is it exact, probably not; but it demonstrates you have to use your own self control despite how heated you may get. Which can be harder irl with the whole fight/flight instincts screaming to punch them.

As for your ideas:

  1. I would be fine with a warning but also imagine too many people would misunderstand and flood support.

  2. Flat no. All chat, you can and that is fine. Team chat should have to be an active choice each and every match (by which I mean mute). Granted mute doesn't block them from seeing what you type.

  3. Uhh. Besides free stuff and the pop ups saying "you have been honored x"? Reformed emote has to be Draven sipping tea.

  4. If I said the same thing as you, but for getting from Honor 2 to Honor 5, how would you react? I imagine you would say that it would be silly of me to compare. Is it really though? Length to climb honor varies for each person. While I would love more clarity to the system, it is fair. What makes it fair is the punishments don't care what honor level you are.

The only change I would make I did in my own post. That would be add a second 14 day into the system for people who jumped to 14 day for ZT. Thay way if they slip with something for a CR, they can learn that they were still being improper.
