Is it really that hard to make a simple guidebook?

Can you said KYS once in 50 games? How about it's variations like KYYYS? How about EZ, is that better?

First timing a champion? Cause I got reported a ton for this. Thretening to report people who first time a champion?

Dealing with trolls? Wtf are you even supposed to do here? Can you spamping people?

Yeah sure, the comunity is toxic, but a lot of people don't even know what counts as toxic. They don't know what they can or can't do. They know what they can or can't report.

We have this shiny new client, just put some basic rules somewhere.

As someone who has moderated quite a few communities now, there's a bit of a problem with putting hard-and-fast rules like what you can and can't get away with.

The issue is that people WILL skirt as close to them as possible, and fine ways to abuse and harass people that the rules don't cover, and that leaves you either having to deal with it or having to overreach your own rules.

Hence why, in my view, "don't be a jerk" is about the only rule most communities really need.

Still, don't be a jerk breaks apart when someone is actively provoking you.

You must not flame the jerk doing Disco Nunu and turning the game hell for 4 people. Now, does flaming this guy makes one a jerk? This part is ultimately subjective, and how many people fall into a trap and lose their accounts over this? Or we can just tell them to report him quietly and not risk bans?

Yes, pretty obviously. You're being a jerk to him, 100%. There isn't a "you get to be a jerk to someone under these circumstances" clause.

It holds up well, frankly. Is what you're doing an impolite, rude, insulting, or unnecessarily negative comment? Don't say it. Are you ranting on and on about something someone is doing that you dislike to the point where you're just grinding it in their face? Don't say it.

I get what you're saying, and I'm all for more information on proper avoidance techniques, but I don't think we really need to break apart "be respectful of your fellow players and don't be a jerk" any more than that.

To add one thing, Riot couldn't even define "dont be a jerk" if they wanted to, as the system is trained and constantly updated based on community standards.

Yup, but the moral conflict of 'doing bad things to bad people' is a bit more subjective. Just look at Death Note debates, it's been over 10 years and people are still split.

While I don't see a point in duscusing it, Riot should clearly informs people of it's stance on the matter. Like this:

Sure, but this isn't a moral stance. This is a system of "do bad things, get punished, because doing bad things isn't allowed."

If we're arguing the morality of the system that's a different story with a little more wiggle room. But the punishment system is very clear on "bad things = punishment."

Just report the trolls. Don't react to them in chat in any way.

What you wrote is correct, but why not display it the client for everyone to see. It would help not only some who though KYS is a harmless joke, but explain to the abused people that toxic behavior can get punished if they report.

Yes, the summoners code can be extremely vague, but I think it was created that way for a purpose. What is acceptable and isn't is generally a fluid concept and can change from month to month. Writing down specific, hard rules would just feel oppressive as hell though. I think the way it's handled now is quite good. 32 year old Timmy being ignorant is no reason to change what works for most of the community.

Mostly because people would either try to skirt the system or argue "you didn't tell me I couldn't [very specific thing]!!!" People would also try to argue innocence from ignorance - "That word isn't offensive where I'm from, among my friends, etc. and it wasn't on your list"

you want a guide to on the proper way you should act in game here you go .

its really easy all you have to do is ...

Don't stress out or verbally abuse your team mates for any reason. Even if they are doing something justifiable wrong.

example : If someone is intentionally feeding and has 30 deaths and you flame them you become just as bad as them.

Ignore them and quietly report them at the end of the match ( no yelling Report x) either

If someone says "you suxxors and are the worst player lol has ever seen"

Do not respond to them

Mute them and Ignore them and quietly report them at the end of the match ( no yelling Report x or muted)

Don't have a Negative attitude

Don't give up just because you cant "win" learn that the outcome is just the cherry on the sundae sure everyone like to win but you can have just as much fun in a lose as you can in a win wit h the right attitude

Don't worry about your rank points or the out come / status of your game ... it will go up and down if YOU do your best you will ed up t the correct rank for YOUR sill level..if you are not moving up in rank you have probably hit your skill level cap .

If the only "fun " you have is if you "win" you need to grow as a person and change that attitude

If your not "pro" and not being paid to do this .

Then its simple remember its just a video game even in ranked

if both team fight honorable ,don't give up until until the result screen even if it looks like a no win situation on your side be respectful to your team mates regardless of what you think of their skill and learn to have fun during the game then out come is irrelevant.

Again you will win some and lose some....but if you have fun during the losses you will be a lot less stressed

Good, nice read. Now what I want is for a text like this to be in the client.

While I've never been banned or similar in almost 3 years playing this game, there are a lot people who don't understand this stuff. They should know the 'rules' of the game they play.

And if it makes 5% people stop spamming KYS, it's a win.

I agree that better education on how the behavioral system works is a good step towards making people aware of what is and isn't punishable. Or at least better access to the FAQs in their support page.

However, I am against having hard written down rules other than for hate speech. Each community has their own rules that they created, and speech is ever changing. Having hard rules will just make it super easy for people to get around.

It's more intended for Timy-The-12-Year-Old to understand KYS is not something harmless you randomly yell at people. Even if Timy's really 32 and spens 20 years in the basement.

Yes it is, it won't give you a ban if you use it as only toxic thing a game. Use it a lot and you might be banned.

Not unless you are inting on it. Especially in normals this is even encouraged.

threathening to report builds up to a ban.

report them, talk to them and you are literally playing into the troll. They wan't to ruin your game, don't let them, just practice your farm.

toxicity is everything a person says with no other goal then to insult other players, if you don't do this you are not toxic.

examples of toxicity that is considered not that bad and won't get you banned if you use one of these for one time and even if they do it is only a chat restrict if you haven't been banned before:
