Why do people think it's okay to not communicate in a team game??

What action takes place whenever someone is reported for not communicating with team? I've had it with those people that are last pick in champ select, with ADC or Mid open, then they pick a champ, then they end up going like 0-7 20 minutes in, then when asked why they picked that role/champ, they say that nothing else was open.

Now, I do understand when people have bad games, but there is a clear difference between a bad person on a champion, and a person having a bad game.

My main issue is that the player never said a word in champ select. I also understand that norms is chill and all, but in ranked, I expect people to actually be discussing strategies and tactics, calling timer for summs, ect. But why don't people do that? I'm not saying to spam chat with unneeded tactics, but notifying your team about someone's flash down, or someones ult is down can make a world of difference. IMO, I could rank being toxic, and not communicating with your team when needed on the same level.

TL;DR What does riot do about people who dont commincate with the team in ranked? Do any of you guys have this issue? What can be done to promote talking to your team?

Some people might not talk because they do not want to get reported for verbal abuse(they may have been reported in past), they might have chat restrictions, or they might mute their chat completely because they don't want to get reported or they just don't like talking to strangers.

I have the same issue too zero restrictions since 2.0 at least 2.1 not sure if I get spam reported/piss off a bunch of players if I will get automated restrictions, however the current problem still remains the same.

I am in champion select first game since 2.1, I have two players call roles, but auto lock champions, at least it was a bit of communication compared to most games so I give credit for this game, but still it kinda has made things hard because I have no idea what to be playing around my team mates because of the auto locks.

In short run we need a report option for "Auto Locking" Champion selecting along with a friendly reminder the behavior is toxic, and manual investigation because players will abuse this report option for players who simply disagree with each-other.

/mute all Is probably what most people do and just wanna focus on their gameplay.

I don't think anything can be "done" about it. According to Lyte, not using the chat system is the norm, at least outside of GLHF/GG. The ping system was developed to make this possible.

That being the case, fostering an environment where people feel comfortable contributing seems like the best option.

Then why in the hell is there a report option called "Refusing to communicate with team" if Riot felt like not communicating is okay. I personally think if you're one of those people who is always muting people and never communicating in champion select which results in confusion, then I think you should at least be warned. I've had just as many bad games with toxic people as I have with people who refuse to communicate. And I've noticed that usually there's nothing you can do with toxic people. However I've lost a lot of games because people wouldn't communicate. I also think people shouldn't be allowed to autolock. And I know that this would take longer in ranked but I'd rather have ONE person pick at a time so at least it would cut down some of the trolls. F(ck, I'd rather sit in champion select for another 2 minutes then sit in a lost ranked for 20.

nothing, the only report option that carries weight is offensive language, verbal abuse, and negative attitude, you will never get a warning for anything else, you will never get banned for anything else. Leaverbuster handles afks, so if someone rage quits, report them for negative attitude, not afk, otherwise you're wasting a report.
