Hail Mary

Dear Riot,

Please refund all $ spent by the player, after you permanently ban them from your game. It is dirty money. You are better than to willingly take dirty money. I have faith in your humanitarianism.

Tootles!

Taking a players money after permanently banning them is dirty money because it is money gained by exploitation of people. Riot is fully aware that "misbehavior" is natural human behavior. Riot willingly accepts $ from people knowing that the person will be banned afterwards. Only a bully would take your money and then harm you, take your money and then harm you, take your money and then harm you, take your money and then harm you, take your money and then harm you, take your money and then harm you. (Riot goes on forever. The player stops/runs out of money.)

Well you used the product so why give them a refund on a fucking rental anyways? Everything you "buy" is merely rented digital property. You dont own anything in the first place.

They don't take any money after permanently banning players.

After a player is permanently banned, they cannot enter the store. So, they cannot purchase additional RP.

ModPeriscope12/18/2018, 8:35:12 PM6 votes

So first off, there's no obligation on your end to purchase RP. You can progress through this game without having to spend a dime. You can buy the champs you want with free currency and obtain cosmetics without buying anything

Further, if they just give back money you spent on the game, there's no incentive to permaban anyone. You spent $100 on a permabanned account, here's your money back, now you can spend it on another.

This also drives incentive for players to return to the game after being permanently banned, which is not what they want. They do not want permabanned players returning to the game.

But... the players are meant to leave the game after a permaban. Not come back.

Crispy0Snake12/18/2018, 5:24:22 AM4 votes

Your argument is that players naturally get banned, so it's not their fault they get banned. Riot just takes their money and eventually bans them.

A very, very small percentage of players get banned. They get banned because of decisions they consciously make. Riot will no longer take money from their account if a player gets banned. Riot just doesn't want their community to become a toxic cesspit for the health of the game and their reputation as a company.

If you agree that you don't want the community to be toxic, and that toxic players should be punished, then you must concede that:

If you were banned, you probably paid a week or two of wages to the person that permanently banned your account or the person that designed the bot that banned your account. So you paid for the skins you enjoyed and got value out of, and you got value out of the punishment system!

That's value for money, you should be happy!

Riot willingly accepts $ from people knowing that the person will be banned afterwards.

There are plenty of accounts that have never been banned and money spent on them. Therefore not all people who pay money to Riot are banned afterwards. It is impossible to "know" something that isn't universally true. Therefore the quoted statement is clearly incorrect. That in turn makes the argument of the taken money being "dirty" fall apart, and with it the whole point you are making.

Oh, and please don't make the argument for natural behaviour. You don't want to open that can of worms, unless you are willing to argue on behalf of some unambiguously immoral behaviour. Society, in part, requires repressing certain natural urges for the benefit of humanity as a whole. Besides, setting up and following rules of society is (ironically) also part of our natural behaviour, as we are inherently social creatures. From whichever side you want to view this, natural behaviour is no sufficient support for your argument.

Somebody didn't read the ToS [sg-lulu]

rujitra12/18/2018, 4:31:26 AM3 votes

Lol.

Misbehavior may be natural. Being a dickwad isn't.

Aladoron12/19/2018, 10:22:20 AM2 votes

NOBODY told you to give them your money. And sadly you accepted the ToS.

So i don't think there is anything to discuss here. Maybe the only case if you purchase something, and you get permanently banned between the purchase and playing one game. In that case a refund MIGHT be understandable a little bit, but you know, they don't care.

KFCeytron12/18/2018, 8:52:29 AM2 votes

If what you say about misbehavior is true, and if Riot refunded all money spent on a permabanned account, then every account would eventually have all its purchases refunded and Riot would never make any money again.

If only a few people get permabanned, and if Riot refunded all money spent on a permabanned account, players could treat LoL as a piggy bank by getting an account permabanned whenever they needed a bit of extra cash, and then starting a new account and buying a new set of skins once their cash reserves recovered.

Riot wants to make money, and they are not a piggy bank, so the small number of permabanned players don't get a refund.

Also, you are forgetting the obvious, which is why this is a low effort post.

"Oh, I'm tired of league, time to get permanently banned so I can get all my money back."

You paid for instant access to a skin and champion, all of which you could get for free through playing the game and opening hextech chests.

What's unethical is you treating human beings horribly and being allowed to continue to do so without consequence.

What you consider unethical isn't really seen as unethical by most people.

If you pay a gym to train there and they kick you out for being an asshole, you don't get to keep the devices either
