Reds Please Read: Honor System Revamp

** Introduction**

Hello everyone, so both in game and on the boards I constantly hear people complain about how the honor system is little more than a relic of its former glory and its completely irrelevant now. Now that we have a new client that Riot wants to create new features for over time, I have come up with an idea that would revamp the honor system and get people to play less toxically. I ask that everyone fully read and understand my explanations before commenting, that being said everything I say on here is up for discussion so please don't hesitate to open up a discussion.

My Idea

  1. Make the 4 types of honor (Teamwork, Friendly, Helpful, Honorable Opponent) each have a special reward in addition to the honor banner as well as a new currency based on overall points from each honor and ranking icons.

  2. When one qualifies for a reward based on the honor type not only do they get the banner but depending on the honor type the get a special reward

A-Teamwork: Ensures you get a banning position in queue (people complain all the time they don't get to ban champs, by showing they work well with their teams they have earned the right to ban champions in the champ select) B:-Friendly: Special text effects in chat, both in game and in client for messaging friends. (People who are friendly tend to talk to their team mates more and gain friends to play with, giving them special text chat colors or even emojis will give them incentive to personalize their messages and how they communicate with their team). C-Helpful: Free hextech chest and/or key per every time period this is kept up (every 3 weeks you keep this honor bade, 4 weeks, etc) D-Honorable Opponent: Temporary Ip boosts to help people afford new champs and rune pages

  1. Special Honor Currency spendable in a special Honor shop
  • Each lifetime total honor is worth 1 honor-point in the shop
  • Honor points can be used to purchase exclusive chromas, Ip/exp boosts, hextech chests and/or keys, exclusive summoner icons
  • Honor points are calculated separately from lifetime points so spending them does not reduce the count of overall honors from one's profile
  1. Ranked Icons
  • Each level honor should have a ranked tier system starting at tier 1 for summoner icons. Each tier has requirements to unlock such as total lifetime honors of an honor type and % honor type to games played, The icons would be the honor symbol with the tier number in the middle of it.
  • Once an icon is unlocked it is permanent
  • Icons allow you to emote the honor icon in game (think like mastery level emotes) and the higher the tier the flashier and fancier the emotes get

Reasoning

The honor system was created and implemented because Riot believes that trying to reward good behavior is just as important as punishing bad behavior; however over time the current system has become obsolete because no one truly feels rewarded by it. None of the rewards I have suggested provide a truly significant advantage in game (Maybe ensuring you get to ban a champ, but even then its not game breaking) but still give good incentives for all around better playing experiences. Furthermore for people who already own all the champs, runes, and ranked status they want this gives them a new goal to work toward which gives this game even more play and replay value.

yes this project would be a lot of work and I realize the client is only in beta and needs to have all of the features of the legacy client before this is even considered, but if anyone at Riot could keep this in the back of their mind and let it circulate and provide feedback it would be truly appreciated.

FAQ (this will be updated as I edit my post based on fellow summoner feedback

1.What if I qualify for more than 1 type of honor? Do I get all the rewards or how will my rewards be chosen?

Players can be eligible for multiple categories at a time based on how often they earn these honor types, in the case of multiple eligabilities a player can designate whichever 1 of the honors they are eligible for as their chosen type so they can choose which reward suits them. There will be restrictions on choosing back and forth repeatedly within short periods of time to prevent abuse of reward distribution (cooldown before it can be changed, rewards distributed upon having it activated consistently for periods of time such as per every 3 weeks or so and so forth) but will be able to be changed so people can earn all of the reward types.

2,What are the distributions of the reward types? When and how often do I get them?

Teamwork: Either actively as in every game played as long as you actively are earning this type of honor or it can be based on a system of every 3rd game (because Lord knows Riot loves things to activate on every 3rd/4th time) depending on how Riot believes would be the most positive way to implement this without causing too much toxicity and queue time increases in the process.

Friendly: As long as you have the banner and are actively getting this type of honor you will get all these rewards the moment you unlock this honor type. If/when you change to another type of honor or you lose eligibility for this banner you lose the rewards, so you must actively be Friendly to keep your rewards.

Helpful: As stated with Teamwork, possibly every 3 weeks or so that you have consistently kept this honor banner and not changed it or lost eligibility you will get these rewards. You will get rewarded the first time you equip this so you are guaranteed at least 1 reward, however if you change to another honor type and change back you will not instantly receive the rewards again and must keep the honor type for the time period stated to get rewarded again. If you lose eligibility for the honor type and then regain eligibility for it again, if it has been at least 1 month since it was last selected you will get the reward instantly again. This will make it so people who use this honor are guaranteed something for their efforts, but stops people from abusing the system for increased reward capabilities.

Honorable Opponent: Either it will be activated from the moment you equip this honor type and only go away when you change it or lose eligibility, or it will give usable boosts to your hextech crafting inventory that you can activate whenever that either give you per game boosts, per win boosts, or time period boosts such as every game played for 3 days etc. All depends on how Riot best sees implementing it.

3,What if my account is restricted (Chat restrictions, low priority queue, temp banned)

The entire idea of the system is to reward good behavior, if you have a past of bad behavior and are reforming I believe that deserves praise; that being said Riot has a history of excluding overall negative/toxic players from rewards. I would hope at the very least that even if Riot blocks such people from getting rewards, that earning honor and honor badges could at least help speed up account recovery to normal status. Such as taking a 50 game chat ban and reducing it by 10 or so games if you are consistently honored by team mates and enemies for good behavior; kind of like how prisoners can get reduced sentences by good behavior.

4.I have my honor badge equipped and just got my account restricted for whatever reason, what happens to my rewards?

In accordance with the last question it is completely up to Riot, but I would imagine a suspension of rewards until your account is in good status.

5.I had the Helpful honor equipped and had it equipped consistently for almost 3 weeks and was 2 days away from getting my next reward from it, but now my account is in restricted status; what happens to my rewards?

Again this is up to Riot, if they wish they could very well just make you completely ineligible for rewards and make you have to re-earn the eligibility for honor banner when your account is back in good status, but I would suggest the timer on the rewards pauses until you are in good status. While in restricted status if you consistently earn Helpful honor you will keep the badge, then whenever your account is in good status again your timer will start again and you will have 2 days left until your next reward.

Like the idea. Maybe restrict the amount of honor currency you can get from each Player or per timeframe to prevent abuse by people botting accounts to honor them (all except of honor able opponent would be)

Only real use for the system is to honor toxics as friendly.

Get rid of it, it's stupid like the tribunal was.
