How long does a chat restriction last, and how do you get chat restricted in the first place?

So, I've talked some crap in my day but I've never started anything, and I've certainly never said things like "ni**er" to anyone else even though it's been said to me a billion times in-game, it seems. Anyway, I just got my first chat restriction. I really don't think it's justified, I never really say anything offensive or rip on my teammates at all. Ironically, this happened right after a game where I had some guy calling me all sorts of names. I just afk'd in return (serves him right for being so offensive).

So, how long does chat restriction last? And what is the criteria for a chat restriction in the first place? Is it some sort of automated thing? Because I've gotten the pop-up often where it says I've said something offensive after a game, but I haven't.

Typical questions in this forum, I'm sure. Sorry for my retardation.

There's a bit to go through, but I think I can lay out the basics;

Those notifications that you were toxic? Those pop up when you've been reported too much more than the average. It doesn't mean the reports were valid, just that they were made. They will be checked for accuracy later, and thrown out if nothing is found.
When you do get a chat restriction, it will last for 10 games the first time and 25 for the second time. You just play any matchmade game to work them off one at a time. The third punishment is a 14 day ban and the fourth is a permaban; please stop any poor behavior before that.
Don't afk and don't retaliate. You're hurting yourself and the other players, so it never helps and it's never justified. The instigator can be the worst racist in the world, but if you get toxic then you are subject to punishment as well. Just mute and report them.

chat ban is a joke, i was punished because i didnt gank enough as a jg and team thought that i should be reported for trolling and they did. All i said was i cant gank every lane when you die every min; where top was 0-3, and bot was 0-5 in 6 mins in game. i was flamed the entire game and plus they got me banned, lmao! i created a ticket to league, they suggested me to mute, but then why was i even banned for typing? i didnt type shit or insulted them, they were the ones who were insulting and "I WAS PUNISHED"

nah just shit on people you're probably much better than everyone around you so tell them to buy warmogs no matter the champion and be a meat sack and 1v5 people are so bad at the game its impossible to carry with low mmr cause you get put in the int and leave section of the game
