If you are the person that says "It's only normals" or "It's only ARAM" you are a problem and need to stop playing. Just because it doesn't say ranked when you queue up doesn't mean that you can just ruin the experience for everyone else and hide behind crap statements. Either play or don't but, don't waste other people's time and ruin their game.

To be completely honest, it depends on context. If you're using it as a guise to perform poorly, then yeah; it's a bad excuse. But most of the time, when I say "it's just norms" or sarcastically say "is this your promos?", it's because I unintentionally perform poorly and someone's giving me grief about it. It's more of a "of all of the queues to lose your shit over, you choose a normal game".
Regardless, at the end of the day, (1) everyone should be trying their best to win the match given the circumstances they're in and (2) people shouldn't be toxic.
