I am a pretty good player when it comes to behavior. Give people a gj nj all the time. Help people out. But the two days I am feeling really bad at the world, I get the worst possible punishment? So, I started out with a 14 day ban. I was like “ okay I deserved to be banned for 14 days, that’s correct. Then a month later I was having a bad game and a bad day so boom!! Banned permanently?! After my second time being toxic I am perms banned? The years and money wasted... so much money on skins. I’m not saying I shouldn’t of been banned, but I do not agree on the perma banned. Yes... I called someone the f word and told them to kill theirselves. When did we become so hurt to words in a video game? Words do hurt and smack talk does hurt. I’m not saying that. What I am saying is that, specially with guys, we can be rude and crude. But cmon.... it’s a video game. I have never received a chat restriction banned in my life. And before I quit league and came back I was extremely, like extremely toxic, I was never banned or chat restricted. This was 3 years back. I’m just saying all the hard work, money and dedication to be perma banned. Riot acts like I told the person I will find him, rape him and kill his family? Words hurt.... so let’s get banned for it and teach us a lesson. Month at most.... but not forever... forever a long time. Give me a chat restriction, hell give me a warning.... but don’t perma banned my account... I’m always a friendly person in game... but we all lose our stuff sometimes. Give me another chance..

The permanent ban (as many others have told you already) is a last resort. When you get a 14-day suspension, you're warned in the reform card (whether you read it or not) that your next punishment will be a permanent ban. Ignorance is not a valid excuse.

The standard punishment track is as follows:

10-game Chat Restriction
25-game Chat Restriction
14-day Suspension
Permanent ban

You were escalated to the 14-day ban for the first offense due to egregious behavior. Riot does not tolerate people telling others to kill themselves, which is what resulted in your 14-day ban. After that, your account was on extremely thin ice, and you were expected to be on your best behavior - or on your way out.

What I am saying is that, specially with guys, we can be rude and crude.

That's not even close to a valid excuse. The stereotype of "guys being crude" doesn't fly when - both in League and in the real world - we're expected to keep our crudeness to ourselves.

But cmon.... it’s a video game.

Yeah, it's a videogame. And you got way too worked up over it, twice - with one of those two instances being enough that you decided to tell someone to kill themselves.

If you leave League of Legends for a while after your 14-day ban, then come back, play five games, and flame in the last one - have you really shown any improvement from the 14-day ban?

Punishments don't wind down over time, they wind down over games played - because you actually have to demonstrate reform for the system to ease up on you. And, when you're not playing any games, you're not showing any reform.

Should be 14 days, a month, 5 months, 5 years, and then if you come back then after 5 years... then yea you done...

Those durations don't make any sense. One month would result in you creating an alt/smurf account, 5 months could lead to you forgetting your login info, and 5 years would almost certainly lead to you forgetting your info - at which point, why not just use a permanent ban if you're going to be away that long?

Riot has decided that the four tiers of punishment work the absolute best - any more than the three shots you get would be too lenient, and any less would be too harsh. They're not going to throw in umpteen more suspension tiers just because some people couldn't control themselves.

No, they don't. They want you to learn your behavior isn't okay so you can take the steps to teach yourself to follow the rules. They're a game company, not a personal therapist, and their role is to identify problems, not provide personalized solutions. The solution part is on the player.

In short, they'd like to teach you that you SHOULD be friendlier, but they're not really in the business of teaching you HOW to do that, because it varies from person to person.

But when they banned people. That’s them saying “you gone”.

By design. If the warning didn't help, they want you gone. They've straight-up said this before. They can provide punishments for poor behavior and rewards for good behavior, but it is up to the player to take the time to correct his or her behavior.

There's only 10 & 25 games chat restriction, 14 days suspension & permabanned. Nothing else. You got insta-suspended before because your level of toxicity is higher than average, so you getting permabanned so soon is nothing surprising.

14 day was the first... second was perma banned. You really think one chance is fair and then you get perma banned for life? Think about it... there should be no such thing as a perma banned in the first place unless you were hardcore cheating. But riot doesn’t seem like the 3 times you out... for me it was one time and you out. By receiving a perma banned, definitely going to make me change. But I don’t want to start a new account without all my money on skins? I just don’t see how people can rationalize this?

I literally did not this. I remember seeing if you keep this up you will be permanently banned. I was thinking they give you more than two chances though. I thought you had to be extremely toxic to be banned. Like to keep harassing people and spamming non stop. Racist, sexist and cuss words non stop.

Yes, but differs with places and outcomes that come with it. You know damn well you are going see some kind of harassment in game, doesn’t make it right, and then will you see harassment in the work place? Why is this so you think? I suggest this is exactly how life works (becayse this IS real life, and this IS how it's working). It just isn't the way YOU want life to work.

What exactly were you expecting Riot, Inc. to do? Teach you? Why would you expect this?

Like someone else said, they're not therapists. They are not a school or place of higher education. They are not government, or law enforcement. They are not a religious organization. They are not 501c(3) non-profit.

They are a business. A gaming company. It is not their responsibility to teach us anything. Their responsibility is to the shareholder. As it should be.

They have a responsibility to provide a product that meets safety standards. That means it shouldn't malfunction and dismember you, or have sharp jagged edges, or contain an undue amount of carcinogens (without warning) and shouldn't be radioactive. Like a vehicle. Safety standards do not mean that the product is defective if it causes you to have extra mental stress or emotional problems due to online interaction with other users. Since Riot essentially produces virtual goods they don't have to worry too much about this sort of thing. But you know what? Their clothing, their plush toys, etc, DO have to meet safety standards too (like flame retardant materials, etc).

There's a huge difference between responsibility and 'expectation'.

It sounds like Riot / League of Legends failed to live up to your expectations in some way.

My suggestion, what most responsible adult consumers do: VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET.

I like League of Legends. I like Riot. I'll continue to play their game, and follow their rules, and I'll continue to spend money. If anything changes, those things may change.

I have been banned from games before. Multiple purchases for multiple CD keys, which got banned over and over again. Because I didn't like the game, and some of the servers I played on. And it was funny and easy to find exploits and cheats. And I didn't mind. I didn't respect the game. Or the creators. And I was younger, and foolish. But I still never thought the company had a responsibility to provide me anything other than the product I paid for. And I had a stack of game discs to show for my 'purchases'. They had every right to revoke my CD keys for online play.

So, find your inner balance and learn from your mistakes. Stop expecting a company to treat you like a school teacher, significant other, or your mom. Expect them to treat you for what they see you as. Dollar signs.

And get this: There's nothing WRONG with that.

Learning is a process. There are pleny of times in life you won't get extra chances. A lot of times you won't even get a second chance. Enjoy it, because it's one hell of a wild ride.

This essentially means you get four strikes. After that fourth strike, you are done. Anything more than mild negative behavior can accelerate you to receiving (essentially) extra strikes for one behavioral incident.

If you get to the point of a 14 day suspension, you are supposed to take that as a wake up call. Your behavior as absolutely not acceptable. and must change. If you choose to not heed that warning, then the "last resort" punishment happens and you are done. It's tough, but you lay in the bed you made.

It makes sense in the context of rules and laws. If you break a law that is deemed more serious, you will get a different penalty. For example, a parking ticket is usually not something that you can lose your driver's license over receiving (at least where I live). but if you get several speeding tickets in a short period of time, your driver's license will likely be suspended.

Basically, skipping the chat restrictions is seen as a more severe punishment for a more severe offense.

This place is filled with people that get off on others getting banned for life. They are insecure and words hurt them. They actually think that calling intentional feeders "mentally weak" is grounds for a ban. Its actually crazy. These people have nothing better to do than to try to ruin the lives of fellow gamers to get their rocks off. There's a mute button and the chances you'll ever see that same player again is astronomical. But nah. You want them to never be allowed to play again because they had a bad day.

This place is filled with people that get off on others getting banned for life. They are insecure and words hurt them. They actually think that calling intentional feeders "mentally weak" is grounds for a ban. Its actually crazy. These people have nothing better to do than to try to ruin the lives of fellow gamers to get their rocks off. There's a mute button and the chances you'll ever see that same player again is astronomical. But nah. You want them to never be allowed to play again because they had a bad day.

This community is elitist and holier-than-thou. Don't try to reason with them. They don't care about anything but themselves. They just virtue signal to LOOK good. They don't actually give a fuck about the actual human beings they are effecting with their fake righteousness.

That’s how I feel, no interactions with real people cause it’s a game. It’s a shame. I love this game but looks like it’s the end for me.

As detailed thoroughly by Umbral Regent, you absolutely deserved the permaban mate. It's ok to have bad days or bad games; it's not ok to take that out on others, either in-game or IRL. If you can't control yourself then it sounds like you might need to consider getting some external help, or practice some anger/stress management techniques.

There's no difference between telling someone to f off and kill themselves in-game or IRL. That's not fun smack talk; that's verbal abuse and a blatant deathwish. You should never speak like that to anyone, regardless of the communication platform.

There is a world of difference between gaining unfair advantage or breaking the game for everyone and saying words in chat. Industry standard is not permabanning all mean people. Punishment should fit the crime and permaban does not fit saying bad words. Permaban is more abusive.

And, actually, there is also a world of difference between telling someone to kill himself in the internet and irl, because people dehumanize and demonize each other when they don't interact directly. It's much easier to say, it's much easier to take and, you know, not kill yourself.
