Should my account be banned?

Well. I'm not going to try to make up some sob story, this is not an attack on Riot, I'm simply curious if anyone else has thoughts on my situation. My account was permanently suspended over the summer. I know this post is months late, but I assumed there was no point in fighting anymore.

I was on vacation with my family, so off of my main computer, and on my laptop. I didn't play league much, I can't remember if I actually played at all. But when I tried to I found my account to be banned. Now this doesn't have anything to do with my location/machine change. I was informed when asking that my account was banned due to the use of scripts. I don't use any, so I was immediately infuriated and confused. Upon looking at my match history I had found plenty of matches as champions I don't play, and games I don't recall playing. The epiphany then hit me, though I didn't want to accept it.

One of my friends, who clearly isn't a friend anymore, shares my home computer with my during the summer because we hung out so much. And long story short, I have a notepad file with all my passwords (making it easy to play on my account) and I found a scripting program hidden on my computer when I got home, which matched up with my ban, and with the matches as champions completely out of my pool. At first he wouldnt admit to such a thing. So I knew what was happening now, I told Riot immediately. I tried to make my point clear multiple times but Riot would simply respond by telling me account sharing is against the ToS. I explained that my friend using my account was completely without my knowledge, and not allowed by me, same response. My friend eventually admitted that he was playing on my account as he simply wanted to "rank me up" and that he "didn't think I'd get banned", good friend!

So I'm banned, that's it. I think I may have spoken to Riot for up to two months until I gave up. My personal argument is that it shouldn't be considered account sharing when it was against my consent, if its not considered account sharing when someone's account is compromised via malware and used without their consent. You can say its my fault for having my passwords readily available on my computer, and I don't disagree with that statement. But I believe its just as much someones fault if they download malware, and don't have the program(s) to remove it before playing league if they get their account stolen.

And yes, I'm sad, and yes, I want my account back. I've spent tens of thousands of hours playing, leveling champions and masteries and grinding IP, as well as spending near a hundred dollars on skins and other cosmetics. All of this taken away in one message, completely unexpected. I don't expect to get my account back either, I simply want my voice to be heard, even if three people read this. Thanks for your time. summoner 3

TL;DR.

I believe Riot will recover and excuse bans on accounts that have been compromised and used without consent from the owner by means of malware. So I'm simply curious how that's different than a friend using my account without consent.

Unfortunately RIOT takes the stance that account security is your responsibility. I'm sure they'd be willing to speak with you about what happened and see if there is any alternative resolution to be had. Submit a support ticket.

On a side note. Never leave passwords where ANYONE but you can access them. Lists should be in locked files with encryption if possible. Not just for your LoL account but for future financials and identity information. I've been through Identity Theft and trust me. It sucks. I know where the guy lives, what he's stolen from me and when and I can't get a single person in law enforcement to help.

If you can obtain proof that you weren't playing the games that you got banned for then that might work in your favor. Try getting copies of flights/hotel/theme park tickets/restaurant receipts and such and see if after proving that it wasn't you if they'll be helpful.

Likely won't be overturned as RIOT is very strict about this kind of stuff. But it's worth a try. Good luck.

I think they absolutely should excuse accounts that have been baned while a friend was using the account without consent. Sadly, it is close to impossible because there is no way to be 100% sure that this was the case and the reason for the ban. You can in no way proove to RIOT that it wasn't you behind that computer screen. It is logical that they should do it, but they just can't.

So as kind of a reply to EVERYONE. My amount of security for my account was garbage, yes, I never denied this. My argument is that unless there is a massive email password leak, people are mostly in control of their security as far as their account being compromised as well.

If your account is comprised via malicious programs or sites, you have bad security. If your account is compromised via a real person accessing your computer, you have bad security.

Riot supports giving you your account back for the first situation, but not the second.

In both situations there is a possibility the owner of the account COULD be lying. One could simply use a VPN to play with unauthorized 3rd party programs and then claim they were hacked and it wasn't them, and from my understanding (Not 100% sure) Riot would recover their account.

Shinko, your logic is like saying to the parents of someone who commited a crime that the criminal and the parents belong in jail and btw im divorced for a reason buddy, lol. Your attention to detail is flawless, :)

Sadly it's Riot's firm stance that your account is your responsibility. They can't control other people's actions on your computer, nor can they get real proof of it. Giving amnesty to situations like this would make people use the "someone was on my account" excuse just to avoid being banned from scripts (I'm not saying it didn't happen to you, just that other people would abuse it).

Hi, no one plays on someone else's account to "rank them up" for free and for fun.

Your ranked latter

Even if you were banned accidentally, which in that case I feel sorry for you, you left league not in bronze! [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

I have to say this but, no one takes month long vacations.

I was just banned forever, 1st offense too for almost the same reason however mine was not scripting it was toxic chat. 4yrs and over 700 dlrs down the toliet, I know im innocent and I completly believe you. It sucks when your innocent and everyone gangs up on you like they know the truth. In my case Im divorced and my son comes over for Worlds and I threw a party for him and he got on while I was sleeping and one game was all it took. I explained I didnt know and I didnt allow and they still keep the ban, so to prove my honesty, Im just deleting my account, its in the works now. I think this company is making a huge mistake with perma bans as opposed to perma ban chat restrictions which makes so much more sense.

You dont type and play league, you get a headset, lets be real people. Im not supporting toxic chat but we have a solution for everyone. Perma Ban Chat Restriction, problem solved. You have to understand they are a business and they do in fact require money, if they didnt they would stop pumping out skins, lol. So Im deleting my account as proof of my honesty and I will occasionally look at this games boards see how far their failure is stemming but I imagine with this whole Draft and Blind pick ordeal about to unfold it wont be long because their player reform and what they are about to do counter each other. Everyone knows Blind Pick is people choosing all sorts of weird stuff and insta locking...and Draft ranked with no normal draft forces players, yes they force us once again to their will, it forces players to not be able to play casually. By the way they said in an Ideal world they would include removing Norm Draft from NA so be on the lookout its coming, lol. Good luck!

I've spent tens of thousands of hours playing.

You've spent about 1.352 hours on League of Legends...

I have a notepad file with all my passwords

This made me lose all my sympathy for you

Well, you are responsible for your own account security.

When your security is so weak, you can't complain about thefts.
