KYS has gone too far

Alvinnater·12/12/2017, 11:07:57 AM·13 votes·1,236 views

I just recently finished a game and this Lux support won her/his game and told me to kys after the game and left. I'm going to be real upset if they don't ban her/his profile permanently. People need to understand that just cause it's online it doesn't affect people. In reality yes it does affect other gamers. What if you told someone to kys and they actually did, or what if you don't know that their only escape of pain is video games and you tell them to kys and they do it. So with this meme of kys I honestly think people should take consideration and stop the kys stuff cause it's really not cool and it's really immature especially if you say you have common sense but you still use it. I've thrown out my ten-cents. I want this to be and open-minded discussion from people out there as well as being mature about it. I don't tolerate toxic arguments on here. So thanks for reading the post and stay safe and have fun out there in the Rift.[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

I do agree with Alvin Xiong1. I believe this should be taken seriously, I heard too many times that people die cause of a negative affect in their lives. This happens a lot with bullying, cyber bullying, abusive relationships and the list goes on. KYS memes on video games is no different. I honestly don't tolerate this meme and I believe not only RIOT but other gaming communities should take this into consideration and do something about it as well. I know it is our job as the gaming community to do something about this and I do strongly advise that we not only RIOT community but the whole gaming community to do something about this KYS trend. I know that not everyone would want to do something about it cause everyone is different and not everyone see's eye to eye but still I think and believe that no one deserves that at all cause we don't know anything about other gamers and their situation outside of the gaming world unless we know them in real life but other than that we should consider and be cautious of what we say and do cause it could affect if not us others around us or others out there. Thanks for this post @Alvin Xiong1*[slayer-jinx-wink]*

I advise you to remove the persons name you've posted. It's against the board's rules, and I'd rather not see your post deleted over something so minor.

I aswell think it's pathetic to tell people to kill themselves over a video game, but that argument is just stupid imo. If I tell someone that I don't like him and he later kills himself because he had other problems in his life aswell, am I at fault for him killing himself? People have responsibility for their own (mental) health, if you know that you are in such a bad state that a simple "kys" from a random raging kid in league affects you that much you need to get help yourself. Everything negative will effect someone somewhere in some way. I agree that kys is bad to say that's why we have the instant 14 day punishment for it. But I don't see how it is worse than other insults. Telling someone that they are ugly, play bad, are a "%%%got" or anything alike can have the same inpact on someone but you don't ask for an instant perma for those. Why not?

Actually, we do care and I am sorry you are going through all of this at the moment. If you want to come to the boards discord to talk to us feel free.

First off, naming and shaming is against the Boards Universal Rules, so you'll want to remove the player's screenname. Elsewise, a Moderator'll do it for you.

Second - if you reported them, they'll get punished. Maybe not permabanned, depending on their current account standing, but for encouraging self-harm, they're going to skip to a 14-day ban, and any slight offence will push them over into a permanent one.

If you feel like your report won't make it through, and if you got screenshots of the chat, you'll want to submit a ticket at Riot Support.

"People need to understand that just cause it's online it doesn't affect people"

Might want to correct that. You're saying that just cause it's online, it doesn't affect people. That's the opposite of what you meant I'm pretty sure.

Alvinnater12/13/2017, 7:08:33 AM1 votes

Yeah it's best not to do it cause it could affect others as well you never know.

I agree, but I find wishing cancer to someone or his family is even worse. I ALWAYS report a player who types that. How can you be so low to wish someone a cancer BECAUSE OF THE VIDEO GAME? People like thad don't deserve only a ban, they should be locked in asylum.

Pandemic Punch12/13/2017, 7:07:27 PM1 votes

When you demonize something, you give it power. If you make something taboo by making it a ban-able offense, people will gravitate toward it more.

If you tell a hater what offends you, they are going to use it to make you be offended. Bringing more attention to it does not magically make people more empathetic. Bringing more attention to it just exposes your weaknesses to the people who will be looking to get under your skin in the first place. This is the problem, not the solution. Nor will it ever be a solution in any walk of life or any part of the world.

People need thicker skin. It's just a video game. I laugh it off with how hard they are raging when they type that.

Kys

1: nameing and shameing is against forum rules.

2: "kys" is already a zero tolerance policy.

3: "what if they did kill themself?" is the worst way to get ppl to stop saying kys, it's basicly trying to shame them into stopping, which don't work unless you are talking to kids.

it doesn't work on anyone else really, it's like saying " if you drive too fast, can you risk loseing control/not pay attention for a moment and kill someone, can you live with that?", even in this (much more likely to kill someone) scenario, doesn't it really have alot of impact on anyone really, because ppl that wanna speed doesn't care.

Hi Alvin I sent you a friend invite in game if you want to play or talk. And is that other Xiong who posted here related to you? o.o :)

If you are crazy enough to actually kill yourself from some kid telling you to do it on league you probably dont need to be playing video games or be on the internet. Its out there you wont fix it. If an alcoholic goes into a bar and drinks you blame the guy not the bartender.

if i could upvote more i would. encouraging people to hurt themselves is abominable. suicide isn't a joke to be used as a personal slight for your self worth boosters. if you do it you are the worst type of scum.
