Riot Should Punish People Who Report For No Valid Reason

The Title, basically. I've seen people who report for simply having a bad game, or blaming others on their feeding, or for no valid reason at all. Perhaps I am mistaken, and Riot does do this, but if not I think it would provide adequate protection for people who do nothing wrong and have to suffer through the nonsense rage of other players. People would think twice about clicking the report button, and would actually need to do it on reasonable grounds.

They do.

By discarding the invalid reports and devaluing their future reports.

They barely punish as it is... less than 5%... They should be BANNING that amount... not giving chat restrictions to them.

As EndlessSorcerer indicated, Riot has a system for weighing reports.

On several instances (please take out on faith, I really don't want to dig through the old forums for the post in question) Riot will manually set report weight to 0 for the worst offenders. They get completely ignored. Basically, they cried wolf.

And then, for the players that repeatedly threatened reports for the purpose of intimidating other players into certain actions got a shiny new 14-day ban. Actually, this was while the tribunal was still up, so those who had recently received a 14 day ban from the tribunal were reviewed for permaban, as well

tl;dr Riot has punished people who false report

They "punish" by decreasing the weight of the offender's future reports.. Of course, there's no way to measure that, and the people who report for no reason don't really care if the person is banned so much as they just want them to receive the warning pop up, so there's no real deterrent in place to prevent this behavior. rito doesn't care.
