So um why is this community so toxic?
I try to start off games positive but usually they instantly tell me to harm myself or they did some rude things to my mother the question is why?

Because of anonymity.
Since they're hiding behind a computer screen, out of any potential harm's reach, they believe their actions don't have consequences and they can do whatever they want.
Because people are powerless in this game.
Trolls and turds have all power.
It takes one turd dying 1, 2 times, game is lost instantly at 3 min sometimes, and a surrender wont come until after 20, its extremely frustrating and cancerous,to waste time on a lost game, but riot adamantly refuses to fix their surrendering system.
To sum it for you there are a few diffent kinds of toxic behaviour, and almost everyone has a little bit (or a lot) of one of these (or all of them), lurking inside them

Im a higher elo, so im gonna make you fell like trash compared to me (or sometimes) im lower elo then you and beating you (lack of skill comparatively)

lost 5 games in a row and im angry, better yell at the people in my next game instead of getting off (losing and unhappy)

generally angry people who are just never happy with anything so its nothing personal but if you say anything you his next target (anger issues)

this isnt ranked so i can do/say as i want who cares if im 0/20 when we ff (unhealthy gameplay, usually followed by a verbal argument if someone on your team is doing 1-6 to them)

Welcome to any gaming community that is competitive. Hell even non competitive ones can be just as toxic. As another user said, anonymity, a lack of consequences via bodily harm or real life retaliation makes people brave assholes.

I checked ya fking match history kid being positive when feeding is so god damn annoying and tilting cuz you're the reason why they're losing, If you were actually good at the game and did not feed every game then your positivity would make me give a damn. Understand?
you have the mute button or you can ignore the people which is easy solution to negativity towards you
Come on league is not as toxic as people make it out to be. They have probably the least toxic community ever because they are so sensitive to a lot of shit u get away with in another mmo game
Game is extremely competitive. Anonymity definitely plays a part.
