Banned for calling someone a hypocrit.

pokemanzters··1 votes·2,088 views

I was given a 10 game chat block and when discussing what I did wrong with a riot support member he called a line where I called someone a hypocrite after he insulted me for doing something he did 5 seconds earlier completely unironically. Sorry for hurting roots sensitive feelings by calling someone a hypocrit.

While yes, the Support staff may have pointed out one or a few lines, generally speaking those are just pointed out as examples, not the full picture.

The fact that calling someone a hypocrit contributed to my chat ban is in my opinion completely out of line with riots terms of service.

It is not, actually. Please re-read the Summoner's Code whichi s incorporated into the Terms of Use by reference.

Please also note that insulting behavior is explicitly prohibited in the Terms of Use - and calling someone a "hypocrite" is nothing but an insult.

Then by that logic anyone who says anything with a minor negative connotation like hypocrit should be banned. If you look at the actual definition of hypocrit it is not as negative as what most players say on a gamely basis.

rujitra1 votes

You are saying "most players" say things like this, but they really don't.

pokemanzters1 votes

If you look at the textbook definition of hypocrisy it's someone being a sham at its core. Calling someone a sham after they do something undesirable is very normal. Much more toxic things go under the radar like making fun of someone for their rank which if you watch league youtubers happens constantly. But just f the little guy huh.

rujitra1 votes

Calling someone a sham is an insult as well.

"Making fun of someone for their rank" is also punished frequently. You do not have any knowledge of other players getting punished or not for doing such things.

I could find a video for almost every pro player and riot endorsed player making fun of someone for their rank yet they continue streaming and playing with nothing from riot. You shouldnt assume someone's knowledge or make fun of someone for something that you dont know. Your starting to become a hypocrit as well.

Most professional and/or high ELO players know each other. They are joking with each other because they are all friends.

Further, Riot does not punish players for what they do on stream/video - only what they do in game.

Lastly, I am not assuming any knowledge, nor am I making fun of you. It is a fact that you have no way of knowing if players are punished. Riot does not ever release that information.

Game history is public you can see when they play games. It's especially obvious when they stream daily. Also the major double standard of not counting what league players they endorse to hold them to the same level of accountability while streaming.

A chat restriction does not cause them to lose game time, thus you have no way of knowing that.

There is no double standard. Every player is held to the same standard of in game behavior. Players' behavior on other venues, such as YouTube, Twitch, Discord, etc is not policed by Riot - Riot does not own those avenues, nor is it Riot's job to police them.

Shouldnt you hold those that you give special privileges and money to to a higher standard? Especially when they are playing your game in the public eye?

So... let's say I'm licensed as an electrician by the state/country I live in. That license puts liability (higher standard) on me when I am working as an electrician.

Let's say I then decide to do some work for a friend in their house - I'm not getting paid, I'm just doing it because we are friends and I'm a helpful person. If I screw something up, would I lose my electrician's license? Virtually always no.

"special privileges and money" only apply to the exact reason you're getting them - playing League. Just as the board of licensing isn't going to come watch me in my house and say "OMG YOU STAYED UP UNTIL 1 AM WE DON'T LIKE THAT NO MORE LICENSE 4 U", Riot isn't going to (and honestly can't, given how many streams there are) police what people do outside of League of Legends, beyond considering removing partnerships/etc.

I think you also vastly overestimate the amount of streamers that are officially supported or have special privileges. Riot gives "unlocked" accounts to many people across multiple platforms because it is advertising and boosts skin sales. Riot is very clear that they are not representing Riot, etc.

Professional players, on the other hand, are held to a higher standard, as they are representing their team and Riot even when not playing.

Obviously not seeing they are toxic all the time and nothing happens.

Did you know, the system doesn't punish based on words in itself? It punishes based on the intention of your speech patterns.

Since the chatlogs are currently not yet posted, I am going to make a bold prediction; people whom usually use the word hypocrite have a habit of arguing with their teammates, and exercising such habit oftenly enough does indeed constitute as punishable negative behavior.

Did you know you can ask for the specific phrases which lead to yu our ban and this was one of the few. The fact it contributed to it is stupid just like your bold assumptions

Going through your other replies, it seems that you are misunderstanding how the system works.

Think of the behavioral system like a health bar (or tension meter) in music games. When you hit the note at an off beat, your tension meter increases. When you completely miss a note, the meter increases by alot. When you hit the note at good timings, it reduces the meter.

Riot's behavior system works the same way, as in we all have a toxicity meter attached to our accounts. When players are mildly toxic, it goes up a tad. When people use hate speech, it pretty much fills up the meter. of course, clean games reduce the meter.

I tell you that it's not words that get you banned, but the attitude instead. Arguments and condescending attitudes are considered mild in toxicity severity and it takes many games of similar behavior before someone gets punished.

Saying the word hypocrite itself is not punishable, but using it in a manner to turn someone's flame back at them will turn the use of that word from a neutral form of use to a negative form of use. It is the intent behind that word that is punishable, not the word itself.

Gonna need them logs

I am on mobile and will post full logs when I get home but the message that the rioter says is toxic that I am pissed about is " you are such a fucking hypocrit" in response to the situation above.

Probably because you dropped the F-bomb directed at a player. You left that out of your OP. That's all it takes really. One instance of 1 expletive.

Riot had said you can swear multiple times. If a person got banned everytime they swore there would be no one left to play league.
