Verbal harassment and hate speech should not be a reportable option and here is why

This is an online game, everyone is here to win and have fun. but lets be honest, nobody will be happy losing all the time right? shit talk is going to happen no matter how bad the punishments are. Now, why there shouldn't even be an option to report shit talking, because if you see someone talking shit, mute them, theres a reason for the mute button to be there.. if u can't hit the mute button or you simply dont wanna mute someone, then its your choice of seeing all those shit talking am i right? if the person has no positive speech to say, why not mute him?

So if Riot can see this post please give me and everyone an explanation why don't people just mute someone thats talking shit?

The "Mute" feature is a last resort to prevent any further harassment or abuse. Just because a feature like this exists doesn't mean it's OK for players to spew hate speech or be racist or verbally abusive. The vast majority of players in League hate these types of behaviors, and we should respect these players and not tell toxic players it's OK to be dicks just because a "Mute" feature exists.

Are you aware that hate harassment and hate speech can land you heavy fines and even prison time in real live? If you think that's acceptable, be happy that such a report can only get you banned here.

I actually agree that shit talking is normal and expected, probably even acceptable, but this has absolutely nothing to do with shit talking

Just because their is a mute button doesn't mean you get to be a jerk.

This game is based on communication so muting everyone at the start actually hinders your gameplay.

Mute doesn't prevent the initial harm only the continued harm.

Just because this is a game doesn't mean you can act however you want.

Being a jerk has consequences.

Here are a few reasons your wrong. This is My opinion and no one else's. If you want to be a jerk I hope you enjoy being banned in the future for that behavior.

The mute button is not there so people can say whatever they please, It is there to minimize the problem. IMO this is a poor excuse to try to use to allow players to say anything they feel like.

Even if someone hits the mute button After hearing insults and hate speech as you suggest the damage may already be done. This is why you don't get to use the mute function as a "I can say anything rude' button. Nice Try though.

No, it's their choice for talking shit in the first place.

The problem with this logic is you're trying to place the responsibility on people to mute, rather than the responsibility to be decent players in the first place.

To really stretch the concept and put it in a metaphor, it would be like saying we shouldn't get arrested for robbery because it was the homeowner's choice by not locking their doors.

To me that is pretty darn close to telling someone to kill themselves over a video game because you Felt you were inconvenience for a game or whatever. When a person takes this attitude and approach to the game and then wants players to agree with them this is a problem.

No One says you have to be a coach or a friend although that would be the stand-up thing to do, what I'm saying is by advocating hate speech in a game is just plain wrong. I know that you can have your own opinion and I can have mine and if you want to repeat all over this thread about how unjust this is then people will keep telling you that there are rules you have to follow and in the end we all agreed to the TOS and that is the simple answer to why Riot doesn't allow Hate speech. Like it of not, it's your choice, put you still have to adhere to the rules of the game.

There's a difference between constructive criticism and telling someone they suck. You're not giving them anything to improve with if you don't tell them why they suck.

You don't tell them that they suck. You tell them what they can do better. The trick is omitting the negative part. If you must insult insult them, do it in your head or out loud, don't do it in game. "Try only hitting minions right as they're about to die" or "try csing more instead of constantly fighting" do way more for the player doing poorly.

still doesn't matter. I've said both, and they thought it was offensive either way. People are just too sensitive to take any criticism in this game.

i never said i verbally abuse them. Is that wat you got from my post? If so, show me where i stated that. I just said i say "you suck, you keep missing minions" or "could you please hit them when they're the minions are lower hp?" depending on the situation. If you think this is verbal abuse, you have problems yourself. One way is just harsher than the other. If they're gonna complain, i'm not gonna kiss their ass because they're sensitive. I'll just say it straight up and not sugar coat it. If they don't say anything, i'll do the nicer way. But both of those examples are NOT verbal abuse, as much as riot wants you to think it is.

And i hope u weren't trying to bring religion into this.

Here's the thing. I'm not being paid to be their coach. I'm not their friend and in all probability I will never see them again nor do I have any desire to. Also, probably no matter what criticism I give them, constructive or otherwise is going to see many results in THIS game. If a person is bad at last hitting, they aren't going to suddenly get better because I point out to them that they need to work on it.

Let's say I'm playing support and my ADC can't last hit for shit. Not only am I losing the 1 gold that I would normally get for those, but everything else that I might want to do is compromised by my adc and myself just being weaker than we should be.

Now let's say that this same ADC first picked and instalocked agains't my duo partner who called the role. Don't you fucking tell me not to flame this person. This person has already knowingly ruined my game, my duo's game and is also playing like absolute garbage. This person knows what they did, they are not going to improve even if I'm "nice" to them, they are a bastard and do you know what? I have no desire to be "nice" to bastards.

Don't tell me this doesn't happen, it happens constantly. But if I say anything to flame them, then I will be reported.

That is the system you are defending. It is unfair and it is unjust and I will continue to point this out wherever and whenever I can.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Usually constructive criticism won't make a big difference in THAT game. It might, it might take a few games for them to realize they're doing something wrong, or they might never improve. Is it fair that someone can ruin your game and you can't do anything other than report them and hope they get punished? No. Being stuck in a game that you know you'll lose because of factors you can't control sucks. You're already stuck in a bad situation, don't make it worse.

Verbally abusing them isn't going to help though. If anything, they'll be more likely to continue that behavior or even escalate it. I can guarantee if you were playing in the same room as the random people you were matched with, you'd be less likely to flame them due to real repercussions (insult goes too far, you get in an actual fight instead of a flame war).

Either they haul themselves back into relevance or they remove themselves from the game enough that they aren't feeding. WIN WIN FOR ME!

The other assertion that people throw around a lot is that the rest of the team will lose morale when a flame war breaks out. Yes, sometimes this does happen, but you know what also breaks morale? One member of the team feeding heinously and NOBODY SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Everyone goes into KDA damage control mode and you inevitably lose the game. If someone is yelling like hell at the person who is feeding, then at least there is a dialogue going on. At least the conversation of "What the hell are we going to do about this feeder" is one that your team has a CHANCE of arriving at.

We've all won 4v5s before, or games where 1 member of the team was so useless that the other 4 had to carry them completely. Very rarely do those games arise out of a situation where everybody just pretended the useless person wasn't useless.

Put another way, if I didn't occasionally win games where I rant and rave at my useless team mates, do you think I'd still do it?

Feel free to mention confirmation bias of course, but unless you can give me stats saying "Players are such and such more likely to win if they don't use these specific words" Then my explanation for your statistics are that players are far less likely to report a team mate in a game they win than a game they lose.

I agree and understand and let those people downvote as much as they can. I only have an other way to do things than you. Allow me to explain

I remember a game , it was back in Silver1, season 4, i was lux mid, and the last pick on the ranked game lobby, instead of suuport, choose to pick Vayne. So we had 2 adc's. Then he made clear to us that he is a troller, who will feed like hell. I was so anxious. It was a promo game to Gold, i had to win, i knew i could, even with a troll. So I decided to make a mini speach to my team and this is what i wrote -not exactly, but somewhat-

"Guys, we can win this. Just please do a favor to our team. Mute Vayne now -before minions spawn- cause she may say things to make us angry. We ve all carried sometimes a 4 vs 5 game, we can surly carry a troll that after he gives out 5 deaths his deaths will be like farming a large minion to enemy team. Just WE have to be a team, WE shouldn't ever die before min 18, WE as 4 must have the perfect farm and WE as a team will carry the troll, and then report him. Just dont give up the game for 1 person trolling it. We are 4 he is 1.

So we actually said nothing to Vayne, we all muted her -thank God my team was kind people who cooperated with my suggestions- Varus let her die used her as a tank and killed enemies at bot after her death, she fed till min 12-13 and then she played normally as second adc. We won.

I told you this mini storie of mine to show you that dialogue is a must and yes, sometimes maybe you need to force it with a little bad talk but honestly, kind talk works way better. And not just in games. In life <3

Except that telling someone they suck doesn't make them want to improve. It just makes them angry. If you give them constructive criticism, that's one thing. Telling people they suck doesn't actually DO anything. Insulting people doesn't HELP anything.
