I have a friend (irl) who is becoming more and more toxic in game. I'm trying to explain to him that just because someone else is toxic in the game doesn't give him the right to be toxic to them as well but he won't listen. It's actually becoming distressing playing with him since I legit feel bad whenever someone other than me is getting flamed. What should I do in order to prevent him from becoming a completely toxic player?

Well depends how close you are with your friend. I probably just tell my friend, "dude you are a rude jerk, now stop being one." or something like that. If I aint close enough with them to say that, I would probably just stop playing league with them.
By the sound of things, he seems to get toxic through retaliation. I would suggest taking steps toward reducing the chances of seeing toxic behavior in the first place. In my opinion, one of the greatest things you can do to reduce stress and toxicity in a game is to turn off all-chat. Less people to interact with, less chance to get frustrated. Try to remind him to mute players that annoy him instead of returning it.
