Hi! So I just got my second chat restriction after just clearing my first so clearly what I am going to do moving forward is mute everyone in my games and only communicate via pings BUT I took a look at my chatlogs that I was given(the only game I was given to reference the report/reference why I was being punished) and it didn't give me the other players and their chats which doesn't allow for the proper context of WHY I was saying what I was saying, which I think is really important. So, from what I can see, I can only see 3 times when I said something actually inflammatory. A lot of these were said in all chat asking the enemy team to report my team because they were spam pinging me and FLAMING ME the ENTIRE GAME. I was trying out crit chance garen in a normal draft game and I wanted to see if maybe it could work with deathfire and actual crit runes(turns out the answer is no and I quickly learned that). For more context, I was playing against an enemy Renekton who definitely knew the matchup well and knew when to trade and not, so I got wrecked in lane honestly. But I didn't start saying anything until my team started flaming me. The first thing I said in the game was literally in response to my teammate telling me to stop being so bad/trash, so I got kinda sassy with him. I suppose I should have just muted and ignored him though. which i did later on. First, I called my teammate who was playing ww an ass. But this was because he was constantly spamming in chat that I was inting when I wasn't, but I guess that means I should simply resort to muting everyone on my team immediately when they start flaming and not participating in anything they are saying ever.

Then, I called my team assholes in all chat because they were still flaming and spam pinging me at that point. But honestly, I was still having fun in the game. I was doing the best I could and although I got really outplayed several times, the only time I really spoke was in response to my team who was flaming me in both all chat and team chat and saying I was inting or when they spam pinged me, which I believe I am allowed to defend myself and at least say that I'm not or tell them to stop pinging me. But I guess I should just mute pings from players if that kinda stuff bothers me.

third, which was again after they spam pinged me until they couldn't anymore and they had just lost a team fight(but I was dead and had literally just respawned), I called them a fuck. Clearly I should just mute them and ignore them, etc. And yeah, I called my team toxic. They WERE BEING TOXIC. Why can't I tell the enemy team that and ask them to report them? A lot of people leave in the after game lobby immediately so it isnt effective to ask then and there. that's why i did that.

other than that, a lot of that in the chat was friendly, non toxic and good conversation between me and the enemy team. Even the enemy team was upset that my team was flaming me. Overall, my experience in game was the one who got ruined and I honestly didn't want to play after that. But somehow it makes sense that I got chat restricted even though I was the one who got flamed all game and you know, had the audacity to actually respond to it.

Oh yeah, and after the game, after the two people who were flaming me reported me(I guess they checked off verbal abuse additionally in their report) they continued to flame me saying "Enjoy your ban you fucking intentional feeder I hope you kill yourself" and shit like that. Then they gloated because I guess they got the notification that said that someone they reported got punished and said "HAHA ENJOY YOUR BAN YOU STUPID FUCK WE JUST GOT THE NOTIFICATION." like cool man, cool. so you know, that's okay. that's completely fine. Even though I wasn't intentionally feeding at all. In fact, two games later I had a really successful game with crit garen(this time I used normal runes/thunderlords) and I pretty much carried the game. But it's 100% okay for them to do that without actual reason to. and I shouldn't retaliate, that's the moral of the story.

TLDR; Please, when you give me chatlogs I REALLY need to see what all the other players are saying to me/to my teammates so that gives some context as to why I am doing what I am doing. That way I can know that when I am in that situation again(because context is very important), I should just do something else(namely mute everyone and stop typing altogether). Also, if I got a chat restriction for this, I hope to god the people that I reported who were actually flaming me the entire game got permabanned or chat restricted themselves because they were relentlessly being jerks. I muted them in game still and i didn't really feel like it helped at that point. I reported them after and I doubt they got chat restricted like I was. Instead, you punish me for what I consider defending myself against flame, but hey, that's fine. Also, we as players should be given the right to appeal stuff like this because given the context of what was being said to me, which obviously you all cannot see, I personally feel like the majority of what I said was more justified/defending myself from their flame.

You were punished for what you said, not for what your teammates said. Context does not matter, you chose to type what you did. Whether they got punished or not does not matter for your case either. If you want I can tell you what all you got punished for in your logs, you will have to reply to this though because I don't have time right now.

Telling others to report someone is considered toxic and bannable.

Name-calling, report-calling and just general negativity as well to boot. You're only shown what you said because you are the only one being judged in your case, not them. They'll have their own cases the same as you. Next time just mute report and move on or just defend yourself in a respectful (read: neutral or positive) manner without dragging it out for longer. From the Instant Feedback System FAQ:

WHY WAS I PUNISHED WHEN THE OTHER PERSON WAS WORSE OR STARTED IT! Simply speaking, retaliation is not an acceptable or justifiable behavior. An argument between two players can easily create a negative experience for the rest of the players in the game with you. Regardless of the other player’s actions, this does not justify your own behavior. You alone are responsible for your actions within the game. If you encounter a toxic player like this, the best option is to simply report their behavior and move on.

From Understanding the Tribunal:

4) That player in my game was far worse than me. Why am I banned??? a) I'll keep this one simple: retaliation isn't OK. Reacting to a toxic player by being toxic just incites that player to be even worse--it also ruins the game for up to 8 other players. It is far, far worse to watch two people yelling at each other all game than it is to watch 1 player ranting into blank space. Almost everyone in the game can find someone out there that behaves worse than they do--but so what? Finding someone worse doesn't justify your behavior or justify retaliation. We expect more out of our players. What players often don't realize is... those other players in your game that you thought were worse? Nearly 100% of the time, those players were banned even before you were. If someone is being toxic, just report them and move on. If you retaliate, both of you will be banned. It's really that simple.
