You get a substantial dose of homophobia, and there is a bit of political posing when its close to election times.
Less racism though, its a lot less tolerated, possibly due to our history with slavery.

Can confirm, racism is highly looked down upon here in the United States. There's even special programs that encourage diversity to further limit it, and it's nigh impossible to have a job in the public sector having any sort of open bias. Sure, you'll get the occasional guy that REALLY doesn't like a certain race, gender, religion, etc., but they are in the minority nowadays.
A lot of our grandparents and beyond went through segregation as well as the lack of gender equality and we've come a long way in making sure that sort of stuff doesn't happen.
There's still jobs and laws that are limited at specific individuals. For example, I was a Submariner in the US Navy (Nuclear Machinist's Mate, MMN2 (SS)) on-board Fast Attacks and there was a "no women" policy for us as being pregnant and exposed to radiation in an enclosed environment is a big "no-no" since there are extremely strict limitations on what sort of radiation limits a fetus can withstand before being compromised. This was compounded by having females who would become pregnant while underway (or not find out until then) and thus we would be forced into a VERY awkward position in regards to pulling into port while being off the coast of a country we were involved with while on mission. The job itself of being any Nuclear Operator is still available to all races, genders, religions, etc., however females are generally only allowed to serve on Aircraft Carriers (CVN's) or in shore-based facilities to prevent any accidental mix-ups from happening.
You're still welcome to ride on a Submarine for a short period of time as a female, as we often have "Tiger Cruises" or "Dependents Cruises" to allow our close friends and family members a once in a lifetime experience of going underwater in a warship and experiencing what it's like with "angles and dangles" as we call it (going up and down at extreme angles). You just won't be able to access the Engine Room, as that's where most of our Confidential and above information is held, as well as the vast majority of radiation from the reactor. We'll even give you your own rack so you won't have to hot-rack and share with us - we'll sleep next to the torpedoes (which you're welcome to come and check out, as they're not in the Engine Room). We also tend to have much better meals when you're on-board as it's not appealing for civilians to eat brown and yellow gravy for a meal, and you're the only people interested in hearing our sea stories.
Oh, back on topic sorry! There's still racism in League (as with any game), however it's very limited, and often racial, sexist, homophobic, etc. slurs are quickly banned through an escalated tier to help ween them out even faster. Most of North America is very diverse in culture and we have to respect one another's beliefs to continue growth as a society, and when someone tends to be close-minded they are usually the ones set aside as outcasts.
Oleandervine3 votesIt's not common, but you do occasionally see people saying racial slurs aimed towards black people, and fairly rarely towards Latinos. What's more common than both of those are homophobic slurs.

Using words like "N*****" and such is common, however you can hardly call it racism since it's not directed at someone. On the off chance you call someone that word with malicious intent and they actually ARE black then have fun getting banned xD

Even though the question was directed at NA players, I in my special bubble answer: On EUNE I don't really pay much attention on things like nationality (or race - how could I tell race anyways?) other than that either people use english or they don't. If they don't, I don't usually attempt to communicate with them more than "Please use english if you wish to tell me something." Thus race/nationality have pretty much nothing to do with us trying to murder each other on the Murder Bridge from my point of view.
I haven't really detected any racism/nationalism problems. Well, it might have to do with me refusing to listen to all-chat and focusing on the match so hard that I often miss what people are talking in team chat too. I am too simple minded to focus on two things at once, sorry. :)
