Ranked, is there a point to it?

While I am probably wasting my time typing this I feel the need to ask the community, what is the point of ranked? (more specifically NA ranked)

So far this whole season I can't get out of silver. Yes I know I myself should improve more to do that, but I think we can all agree even if you are having a good game or you get fed if some other position in the game feeds or doesn't know what to do or rages and starts feeding or whatever the reason, that's the game (a vast majority of the time).

I am now Silver 3 and have been for awhile and have gotten to promos 2-3 times, I can't remember exactly, but every time I get to promos I get a troll or someone that has just started playing league or simply someone that can't survive under tower and farm as best as they can.

For example yesterday I was leashing red at the beginning of the game for my jungler. We were invaded, he got caught and died. At this point I had just went to my lane to get away from the invade. When the jg respawned he continually ping spammed me and my support to help him rather than going to a different camp. Since neither my support or I went back to help him he decided that he was just going to walk down bot lane for the rest of the game and feed. Respawn after respawn he would walk straight down bot lane and right to the enemy team and stand still. By the end of the game he went 0/27/0. Of course we lost. And yes my whole team reported him and not long after got a message that something had been done. But I still lost LP.

I get it we lost, I don't have a problem losing, IF it was an actual game. This person went out of his/her way to ruin the game for us. Like it just seems completely unfair that we had all lost LP because this person didn't get a leash. Then would have to basically just farm through more ranked games to get back to where we were and deal with more trolls or feeders.

This isn't the only kind of situation that I feel needs to be looked at. I know this post is a waste but it's so frustrating how difficult it is to play in Silver just because so many people don't care and just want to troll or feed. Hopefully with the new season things will change but I doubt it. NA servers are terrible for ranked...

Shortly put: Ranked is there to improve people's skills. Overall improving everything they know about the roles and the champions they use. The point of ranked is about improving and climbing to seek out the rewards. Nothing more, nothing less.

The higher you wind up in any elo, I've noticed, the harder it is to find calm teammates.

Tensions are high in the upper echelons of all tiers, because every single one of you (barring smurfs I suppose, or trolls) is grinding really hard to get out and up to the next. That leads to a lot of behavioural issues that can manifest in poor performance.

League is a game of the mind as much as a game of skill. If you have teammates who are:

  • Tunnel visioned on kills
  • Defiant to shot calls
  • Micromanaging other teammates
  • Tilted from Champ Select
  • Lacking map awareness
  • Fixated on things like Baron or Drakes at the expense of another objective or kill
  • Calling GG because you're down a surmountable amount of kills

You're not going to fare well. Now, these behaviours don't necessarily mean that a game will go sour. This is where your own skills come in to play. If you can keep calm, and get a couple additional teammates to work with you, you'll have a much easier time. Things like team composition, Summoner Spell selection, and positioning are critical to having control of the map. Ideal circumstances would be to get the middle inhibitor first, then Baron, then push side lanes to keep map pressure optimal. However, there will be times where it is more beneficial to your team to give up those objectives in favour of forcing a team fight and then regaining the advantage.

These are all things that people should learn the more they play. No single player can carry a game from First Blood to Victory, I don't care who tells you otherwise. That Middle lane player that's 15/2/3? They had help. If they didn't, they wouldn't have snowballed so well.

At the end of the day, the ones that feed are the ones that feed. You can't control them, only your response to them. Losses will happen, and they will be infinitely frustrating, but taking those losses and turning them into 'What can I do better?' will help immensely. That and reporting the ones that actively cause problems, because the more we can weed them out, the easier the climb could become.

Best of luck in the Rift.

The whole point of ranked< is to tilt people as much as possible using non discrete ways such as pings< emotes and making it look like not feeding even though you actually are< ( just dont go above 13 deaths< thats an automatic ban)

so by doing all this you make other players jumpy and they use chat or retaliate by feeding ( in the obvious way or afk)

and the end result is you report them in the hope of them getting a perma< which if they did all of the above and you triggered them in that way then they get the perma and you keep going

its a process of elimination, thats what ranked is about<

my kill count is 17 players on my main< who got permas ( checked their history after u get an instant feedback report)

tis the cycle/purpose of ranked

I know it hurts, but, maybe you're just a silver level player.

Keep on fighting man. It's not supposed to be easy. Think of it this way, getting out of bronze, silver, gold, and into the higher leagues is almost like breaking poverty in real life and hit millionaire status. It is that difficult.

It has the same point as unranked, but it tracks and compares you and your games to other players. So idk, its still just a video game man. Its just for fun.

Someone probably should have helped the jungler. They died and lost buff camp at level 1. Now the jungle monsters are harder and you want them to go leash-less. What about the enemy junglers health? If it was like a healthy Lee Sin, your jungler probably just lost at least half of their farm, and can be killed again at any time.
