why is this game so toxic?
ive played this game for a little bit and i noticed players are so aggressive at verbally attacking teammates. ive never seen a game like this before and ive played a lot of games

To answer the question, because the game is too competitive. And losing in a very competitive game makes people frustrated and angry since they don't play for fun but to win. Many people who play League are pretty young and the only thing they know to do when they get frustrated is to rage/flame or go afk/troll since they are not yet mature enough to just except the loss and take a pause.
Because riot encourages players in the game, To carry out provocative behavior, Those acts include, Champion Level 5-7 pattern, Or the upcoming new pattern. Or all kinds of championship dancing action / joke ridicule sound ... All kinds of harassment / provocative behavior, RIOT treats these acts as interesting acts, Is encouraged behavior. When people are harassed / provocative / unhappy / angry. Do you think their remarks are goodwill?
- Because Riot encourages flaming behavior with their spamable taunts, flares, etc.
- Because it is easy to talk tough when you are hiding behind a keyboard. The vast majority wouldn't have the guts to say these things in real life.
- Because parents fail to teach their kids how to interact socially with other people so they become angry and isolated.
Because it's mostly younger population of NA that plays this game. If this game is pay to play, and/or somehow allows access of mature audience only, yes toxicity will still remain but it'll be significantly reduced.
At the very least, that is the impression I'm getting from the experience of playing a lot of other online games, both free and p2p ones, be it rpg, fps, moba, strategy, or sword art online (eventually).
But to answer OP's question, it is not the game that is toxic, but the toxic players who chose this game.
The root from my perspective isn't what Riot gives you, its what they fail to regulate accurately that makes this game infamous.
We have this "awesome" ban system thats very effective if you're using words they have flagged
Trolls adapted to this. "OK I can't tell this trash team to kill themselves anymore. I'll just do what I want and if we lose they deserve it" Too many people get away with ruining games because they don't get their way, or they think its fun to mess up other people's good time, and they can accumulate many many reports without receiving bans for trolling.
Until "not typing" stops protecting you from being banned for stealing roles and running into towers in rank, this game will be full of legitimately pissed off individuals
Until you don't have to sit through 5-6 queue dodges only to get auto-filled, people will be pissed off
Until its safer to talk more than it is to throw a game on purpose, you'll have a lot of pissed off players XD
