Losing because one of your teammates wants an S as Support

There are a few of those games where you get this guy who plays something like sona, presses w and buys mobis and movement speed to score assists off of healing you while you're at full hp and running at light speed away from every fight, being the only one left alive every time at full hp and mana. Sure you got a 03/15 score, but you legit lost the game because no one can trust you to actually be playing to win. This is the only problem I have with the ranking system for champs.

I have yet to actually see this happen. I find getting S ratings on support to be rather easy and doing that seems like it would just hinder your chances of getting an S. Just playing the role correctly can easily get you an S. I once had something like 13 out 15 games were S's on Taric.

It took me the longest time to get my m7s on Morg and Sona because I refused to be a butt. S- was easy to get, even common, but S? S+? Only in exceptional games. After all, if I got a lead, I did what a good support does and roamed. Once my ADC was ahead, I let them take all the xp to keep snowballing and went to help lanes that were behind. Great for the team, but it does mean you never quite get to personally reap the rewards of your efforts.

Eventually I got impatient and ended up duoing with people who were okay with me being selfish. I got to take kills, build more AP early (delaying my beloved sightstone, but it does put the brakes on early-game power rather hard if you rush it like I prefer to) and clear waves in the mid-late game without someone on the other side of the map getting angry at me. I got my m7s very quickly after that. >.>

The person in question never got the S they were after because they did not do enough healing or damage, placed very little wards, ect. Their participation was registered in the system as not worthy of an S, for which I am thankful.

Placing wards is one of the most important factors for getting an S as a support. I kid you not - ~1 ward a minute seems to be what's required, regardless of whether you actually need the ward or not. Assists also really aren't that useful, which is one of my troubles getting S as a support. Damage and kills, weirdly enough, are a much bigger deal for us. Heals seem to count less than damage, which is annoying. Not dying seems to be super-important for Sona and Janna (1 death on Janna or 2 on Sona seems to nix your chances of anything above an S-), but not as important for Morgana and not even a little important for Thresh (seriously, I got an S with 5 deaths on Thresh once). Skill shot accuracy seems to be a factor too, I've noticed? I don't know if that's just correlation or not, though.

I mean it doesn't happen ALL the time. It just happens maybe once out of every 25-30 games. It was just annoying so I figured I'd start a discussion about it.

Once you have Ardent as Sona, you should be in the middle of your team seconds before a teamfight begins, making sure your W hits every member for the Windspeakers and sustain boosts...

It's not a matter of where you're at in ranking as a player. It's like placing the difficulty setting on easy in a game but to you it's still a challenge. The person bought mobis and movement speed and just ditched people in anything other than a 2v1 or more. There was a 2v2 going on bot lane and Sona flashed away and used E at full hp and mana and left her adc to die, but the adc got a kill, so imagine if the support had stayed. You could just tell the support was ready to bail at the slightest inconvenience and that was the issue.

Yeah you get S by playing legit so easy, but I'm an AP Sona Mid one Trick so I got my S pretty much every game these days no need for playing trolling, I play Support on my main account aswell and actually enjoy the fact that I keep my team in fights even if they don't know it :)

I don't think they're solely on KDA's... I know they haven't spelled every single factor out but I know that there are other factors besides a KDA. I'm pretty sure CS, wards, damage done, healing done, etc... are other things that the grades take into account.

I'm not talking about the shield, they had the items they needed, but sona's shield/heal is not really that strong in comparison. Someone like janna can afford to stay out of combat but the sona was literally ditching people left and right even though he wasn't actually in absolute danger of dying. He was so afraid of dying once he left annie in a fight she was totally going to win as a 2v1 and when I looked at the map to see what happened Sona was under the tower with full hp and because annie didn't quite have enough power the enemy got there before the fight was over. To be afraid of death is to invite death. He lost the game for an S, but it was a ranked game. If he needed to farm an S normals is a good place to do it if you're not trying to win. It should be goal 1: win game goal 2: Get an S.

Oooh, ranked is an important detail. Selfish for an S in normals? I can understand that, even if I struggle to do it myself. Ranked is totally different, though. It's just not the place for that.

I left out ranked mostly because I didn't want to seem salty because of losing a ranked game. (Blaming teammates for loss of lp is usually not a good idea). I only brought it up now because I do understand people may think that during a normals match it's okay to do, and I agree with that.

You see these banners and these in game banner flashing mean nothing to me I actually don't care for the mastery system because it doesn't show you how good someone wish more ppl realized that but nope it's like a rotting Apple of our desires and we feed upon it even tho it kills us

That seems like a dumb way to get an s, these people have always been in the game, but they used to just be kda warriors that just wanted their scores to look good.

I'm not mad at the ranking system except as it pertains to supports. Assists and low death count seem to be all that is required and you can get an assist by doing nothing as a support.

whoa whoa whoa! you're making it sound like supports take nos skill! sure, there's janna and sona... but theres also braum! leona! nautilus! bard! not to mention, you need half decent cs for an S.

Supports definitely require skill. What doesn't is the averages from which the ranking system for supports is born from. If the average Braum player has 11 cs, cs isn't required for an S, but if you play tryndamere support and have 11 cs, it does because the average cs for a Tryndamere player is so high. If you are farming for an S rank (not a win) it is easy to do by avoiding death and hitting champions or healing people, even at the cost of the game.
