I no long desire to rank this season....after one provisional game
I decided to play ranked. Since Solo/Duo queue is back, I figured I may as well. Season 5 (last season I seriously played ranked, whereas Season 6, I just got placed and that was about it) went better than I thought, despite the struggle. The important thing here is that I prefer to rank solo, which is what I did for Season 5. Never really had any problem. Everyone was communicating, asking important questions. I would take the lead sometimes and try to keep the team together in champ select. Even if that meant taking support, I would. I played support often and so it would be a nice fit for the team.
This season, ranked doesn't seem so....what's the word I'm looking for...enticing. I get the idea of being able to get one of the two roles you want but at the same time, autofill defeats that purpose, mainly because it autofills to support. Then, there are people who will take your ranked game hostage and take another person's position. They then threaten to ruin your game one way or another. It is this experience that I just had, and I no longer desire to rank this season....after one provisional match. An entire match, ruined before it even began. Why? Simply because they said they wanted a particular role or threatened with trolling. The worst part? Their summoner spells were suited to the role that they had been placed in.
This is a toxic mindset. And it happened on my first ranked match of the season. It sets a terrible precedent for the rest of the season. I don't want to run into another match like that. I miss when people would ask, and say to each other their preferred roles. This little bit of communication used to be a necessity. It didn't matter if they never spoke a word in the match. All that mattered, was that they said they preferred "top/jun pref" or "mid, sup, adc pref in that order". Now, even though you can select your two preferred roles, you aren't guaranteed that because autofill is supposed to help "reduce queue times" when in reality, it will more than likely lead to situations like the one I just had. And how can you get around autofill? There are two methods: have a full team, or complete a match after having done autofill or support (autofill is just a fancy way of saying "support").
TL;DR tried rank since I can solo queue again, like Season 5. This season doesn't entice me anymore due to many issues, mainly a risk to someone taking the match hostage. I had it happen in my first ranked match of Season 7, and have lost my will to try and rank. Makes me feel like this is all I should expect all season. I miss the old days of ranked.
