Don't start a ranked game if you don't have more than 30 minutes to sink into it.

I use the hour rule myself as real life happens and you don't want to be that guy/girl who lets the team down and costs someone their promos.
I'd say 45 min, to account for queues and champ select. Personally, I'm uncomfortable starting with less than an hour, but I learned during S1, when 40-50 minute games (barring a surrender) were pretty common.
I didn't expect this to be upvoted. I thought the boards have already universally agreed that every single game ends after 15 minutes.
YES. This pisses me off every time. "Hey, lets end this I gotta go"
[darius-angry] I'll find you.
I normally never leave game but under some rare occasions, I must leave or afk for 20 minutes. It happened to me last sunday when I was playing a ranked match and suddenly I heard a huge ''BAM'' outside. Turns out that my neighbour accidentaly backed into my car while trying to move his truck a little during night time. Because July 1st is Canada's day (A.K.A. moving day for people here in Québec).
Now it wouldn't make any sense to just play out the game like nothing happened right?
I'm not a prick, but my car needing a repair of 1000$ is more important to me than leaving my teammates for a LoL game
"Lol my wife is giving birth see ya nerds"
Personally I won't go into a ranked game unless I have at least an hour and 10 minutes of time, 10 minutes to account for ques and champ select, an hour for the game (Yes I understand most games aren't that long, but it can happen and i'm not about to take that risk in ranked). If its a normal or aram than 45 minutes is fine for me.
I totally understand stuff happens, that is excusable. The sink blowing, car getting hit, those are all things you can't really plan on and warrant that afk. Not that it is cool, but it is understandable. Way too many games have people (as mentioned above) saying can we hurry? I have to leave in 5 minutes and the game is 15-20 minutes in.. That is totally un-cool. Good stuff..
Why does this apply the only ranked? This applies to any game you queue for, not just ranked.
Don't start a game if you don't have more than 30 minutes to sink into it.
Fixed it for you.
Back in my day, you didn't start a game unless you had an hour to spare.
I got an AFK punishment back in like S3 or 4 because there was a tornado and the only thing to do during a tornado is to play video games. I even sent RIOT a support ticket with proof reported via news in our area. Their response was, "Don't play during storms." Since then I just play tic tac toe with myself until the weather conditions improve.
This is why urf or short timed game modes should be active more often. I have rarely had to afk from a match, because real life does happen. But imagine now if you did have a fun game mode to just blow a quick 25 minutes off into. Thats urf, whether you get stomped or stomp them, its rarely over 20 minutes
Absolutely agree. My biggest pet peeve is to be 20 minutes in to a game and have someone on my team say "guys I have to go soon can we rush mid now?" - if you're level 30 (and they are because it's ranked), you've played enough league to know how long a game takes.
Completely agree on this! People leaving games early when they know they only have 20 minutes to start with irks me to no end. Glad I'm not alone in this sentiment. [sg-ahri-2]
I had a game where one of the players left during the champion select to go to the bathroom and announced multiple times that this was their plan. They were gone for nearly 15 minutes before coming back to attempt to force a surrender because they were gone for 15 minutes and the enemy had gotten too far ahead just from free farming. I wanted to rip out his spine and beat the rest of the team to death with it (it was apparently a four-man premade).
This sort of shite behavior is becoming increasingly common.
Don't start a ranked game if you don't know the general fundamentals of the game. There are too many stupid people in ranked. Especially ADC players.
Remember when it used to be "if you dont have an hour"? Those were the times.
I don't get how people think it's acceptable to join a match knowing they don't have time to play it or if the know their internet is shoddy. I've afk'd for a few seconds or like a minute if something comes up, like once my brother knocked the ladder over and got stuck on our roof and screwed me out of my last m7 token. [slayer-jinx-unamused]
"Uhhh guys, can we please end this fast because I have to go?" <- One of the most annoying things to see IMO :(
The friend I do play with has literal nazis for parents, he has to leave sometimes unexpectedly. Unpredictability plays into things.
Honestly though I think a bigger problem is the fact that people want to surrender so early.
Yup, one of the two times I've left a game intentionally was when I heard GABLOOSH in the kitchen. Our under-the-counter sink was full of water and came unglued. Water everywhere.
Otherwise, I always assume an hour per game.

Y'all in here havin a circlejerk crying about this??? I've got an alternative if you don't have time to play at least 5 games in a row then don't queue up. You should be getting a good warm-up before queuing for any ranked anyways.
LOL i tho who leave the game and let the team lose get free skins, i was trolled =.=. Because simply if someone get punished for going afk for real he wont do it again and for the % of afk most decrease but i see it only getting increased not decreased so i dont think they are getting punished anyway.
The only game I ever left was a ranked game in S5 when my parent's dog started throwing up everywhere and making this horrible crying noise and I had to rush him to the vet to find out he just had a stomach virus and was going to be fine. Came back and found that my team won 4v5 without me, and I was the adc, in a 57 minute game.
Nah I can tell who is going to win by 20 minutes. That gives me 10 more minutes to make sure I take all the farm I can then try and solo my way down mid lane until the game is over.
Must be new to this game. This is a thing you dealt with before leaver compensation (them starting games and having to leave prior to surrender time.)
Don't start any Summoners Rift game unless you know you have ~45 minutes and decent internet. Obviously you can't completely guard against an emergency or sudden internet outage / drop in quality, but try to at least control the things you can control.
It's the bare minimum that you can do.
