Can someone explain this to me? (Honor related)

I have been away from League of Legends for the past 8 days due to a trip but the last time I logged on to play a game was August 13th, and I stopped playing because my mouse finally decided to bite the dust and I fed my ass off in an URF game. I went 0/8/13, did not get honored at all and went into some practice tool games afterwards to try to see if there was any way my mouse would work.

Regardless, I have not played a game in over a week, and this morning while at work, I open up the client to see if they posted the new patch notes yet and I got greeted with Honor 4. Don't get me wrong, I am glad I have it and believe I deserve it, but I don't understand why it would just give this to me now sitting at work and haven't played since a game no one honored me, if everyone honored each other the bonus honor could have kicked after that last game, and I haven't been on the client in a week.

My wording in this is terrible but I was just wondering if there was any reason for this. Like I haven't played this past week to earn this, even though I play honorably enough often enough to earn it, my duo queue partner has played every other day since then and he is a support main who is like the friendliest player I've met playing this game and he still doesn't have it. It just didn't make sense to me.

The way the system works right now from what I remember is that you passively progress to the next honor level as long as you're not receiving punishments. For example, I'm at honor 3 right now but if I were to receive a punishment I would drop down to dishonorable and would have to work my way back up again. Not only that but I would be barred from receiving any sort of rewards until I hit honor level 1, and even then I would receive less than I would at honor 2. You can climb honor levels slightly faster by gaining honors from teammates*, but ultimately as long as you're not being punished for poor behavior then you'll eventually reach the higher honor levels.

It's weird I know but that's just the way it works right now.

*Note that honors from your premade means less than they do from randoms, so don't expect to climb super fast by receiving honors from your teammates every game.

Unfortunately no one can explain the mystery that is the current honor system. We have no clue what kind of algorithm it operates on.
