Why Is Smurfing Not A Banable Offense

This completly ruins ranked games, it does in any game for that matter. I don't see why allowing it is an ok thing.

i'll shoot you a scenario and ill wait for you to give me a fair outcome.

My friend is high diamond. He forgets login information. Tries several times to recover the account but for whatever reason it fails every time. He must create a brand new account if he ever wishes to play league of legends again.

He will have to level it to 30 and then eventually re-climb back to his diamond rank. How does he do this without smurfing? is it fair he should get his new account banned for just wanting to play league of legends again?

How would you suggest smurf accounts get banned without infringing on my friends right to continue playing league of legends?

Really no choice. It's a free game. It's not like a game that saves itself and has random chances at things and being able to have multiple accounts allows for any sort of cheating. I don't see how it would be possible to prevent and enforce. They could use IP, but then it's like, okay so three children in a household have to all share one account? That would ruin ranked even more considering their skill differences. Smurfing is the same principle, believe me, I know why it sucks. But also, they will be moved pretty quickly to the appropriate MMR. They might stomp some newbs, move up in mmr, stomp some more, move up, then suddenly they're approaching their appropriate MMR. They win a few more, games get harder, they start losing. So I don't know... it's just not that big a problem imo in the first place, leaving out the fact that it's not plausible to prevent it.

Because you can't always tell for certain who smurfs are?

Because maybe someone wants to try a different role than their main?

"I don't see why allowing it is an ok thing." Because we have decided that the creator should be allowed to set their rules.

Alright, enough of that.

I've been in those games; I've read a lot of those complaints.

And, when people go to Step 2 in this topic, we see that it is not a case of smurfing and that almost invariably, it's a guy with a couple hundred games in low elo and a 52% winrate, while the other guy had a bad game and is looking for excuses as to why him losing games has nothing to do with him. The "smurf" was just a guy who happened to have a good game.

But in the other cases, it's like what we had the other day, some guy blaming multiple loses on multiple smurfs playing "bullshit champions" (read, in actuality: bad champions) and instead they are players with negative winrates in low elo, and are probably going to be demoted.

"Wow that player is really good, lets report him and get him banned" - You

As expected most people just saying that the person is bad for posting this. League community gives me a headache

Having a second account for trying new stuff is nice. I can play tanks and bruisers in plat. But if i wanna play assasins in ranked, I need to practice that on a smurf

Well if "Smurfing" weren't allowed that would mean old players who wanted to start a new account couldn't at all! That'd be sad. :(

smurfs climb fast, they don't ruin games any more than a new player would and most aren't Plat+

Smurfing ruins new player's experience in general. Which is why I am against it.

AstralCodex6/1/2018, 4:19:57 AM1 votes

Almost all smurfs are not just a second account. Its to abuse the fact that they cant handle their own placement and they go and and abuse the lower elo completly ruining everything.

ModPrandine6/1/2018, 9:55:52 PM1 votes

Why? Because there's nothing wrong with smurfing by itself. Some players have different reasons to smurf, such as:

  • Playing with a friend who's new, inexperienced and/or at a lower ranking.
  • Trying out new things without the fear of tanking ones own ELO and/or ranking.
  • To troll and ruin other peoples experience since they aren't able to do so on their mains.

In all but the last one it's not a punishable offense unless they also behave poorly while doing so.

It’s because riot will lose out on a lot of new income.

I’m a little tired of seeing these topics all the time. Look, sometimes it feels good to smash bronze players. It feels good to drink their bronze tears. It feels good to crush their bronze dreams. It feels good to step over their bronze bodies as I shatter their bronze nexus. It feels good to hear their bronze screams for bronze mercy and I deny their bronze wishes with bronze crushing fervor.

It’s like when I demolish children in dodgeball as a 28 year old man. It’s not illegal to play dodgeball against children, and it’s not illegal to make smurf accounts in league.
