why dont people surrender?

I AM VBAD·7/10/2018, 9:05:28 AM·14 votes·6,673 views

situation is this - normal blind pick game. its 12-37 we have one inhib left and no wards on the map. the enemy is ahead 3 dragons and a baron to 0. and now they are just roaming through our jungle destroying whoever dares step beyond the walls. surrender vote fails 2-3. why?????

thankfully they ended the game about 2 minutes later but it absolutely blows my mind. my teammates are 3-10, 2-11, 1-9, and 4-4. why would any of them want to continue? do they understand we can get out and join a new game that isnt a complete slaughter?

someone please help me to understand

some players play like 2 matches a day so they dont join to surrender... they join to "have fun" not to win or climb ... so players like you will have to deal with such things sadly... good luck my friend

In my experience, surrendering is very rarely necessary. If the opposing team has an insurmountable advantage, the game will likely end soon, anyway. If the game DOESN'T end soon, then surrendering was likely not the right move to make, anyway. After all, gold and xp advantages only matter for so long. Once you're full build and level 16+, it doesn't really matter if you're down 25 kills. With that in mind, it's often reasonable to play for a pick, or to try to wombo-combo the opposing team and get an ace and a bunch of objectives.

As you said, the game ended two minutes later anyway. You didn't lose much. And while I certainly can't say better than you how your game was going, I'm sure the folks voting "no" figured something along the lines of losing two minutes of their life was worth the chance of a comeback.

  1. There's ALWAYS a chance. I've won games from 50 hp nexuses. Lategame, at like 40+ minutes, an ace can win you the game even if you barely have any towers.
  2. There's never nothing to gain. You can learn how to play against fed , Practice warding/teamfights, learn to play when behind, etc
  3. Maybe they're having fun.

I only surrender if my teams EXTREMELY toxic, and that's just to get out of the environment. I still play my best if voted no but normally I'll just press no, try to win, and mute and report you if you flame me for it. There's NEVER a zero percent chance of victory unless you quit.

I don't surrender because it's bad strategy. You lose 100% of the time when you surrender. You lose less than 100% of the time when you do not surrender. Therefore the only logical strategy for anyone that wishes to maximize their chances of winning games is to not surrender. Further, If you always surrender when things look bad, how will you ever learn to come back when things are bad?

my take on it is i never surrender a game of ranked matches (being as until the nexus falls anyone can win) which has actually turned a few games in my favor but in normal blind and draft if a game goes bad surrendering doesnt hurt my elo so i judge based on a case by case basis. in your case that would have been a surrender in normal game mode

Because there is always chance to win, sometime by stealing baron, sometimes by split push, sometimes by stealing elder drakes, sometimes by just taking normal drakes, sometime by herald, sometimes by 1 teammate who is going to fk their enemies up no one know the future until u try to. For me i never click yes to surrender and by that i won 70% from the games where we should be losing 100% like 3VS17 and i click no to surr while they are pushing and no one can stop them we managed to win the game, so dont give up bro the game is about luck not about how good u are doing.

I won a game that we were down 4-21. This is why I never surrender. Teams throw; the longer you play, the more chance there is that your opponents will throw. They get overconfident, lose a teamfight near the Nexus, you get Baron and win.

Because these assholes just like to spite other people. Despite losing they get there fun making other ppls lives as miserable as they can. Other wise I agree its illogical and stupid to not ff in those situations

The only time I'll surrender is when its beyond the point where I personally can't carry my team due to a number of factors including them being to tilted, naturally bad, or else wise trolling, etc.

For instance if me and one other player are fed, I won't surrender. But in your case, i would definitely take the L.

If it's not ranked, I simply surrender if I don't want to play with my team anymore. However, more than 95 percent of the time, my opinion does not matter in the surrender vote.

It it's ranked, I'd never surrender. It's a team game and to surrender because you think you can't win is childish and inconsiderate. At the same time, I guess I'm a dummy because I still appeal to the childish nature of my allies with the line "we can't win like this" sometimes.

I know how that feels that's one of the main things that annoy me in a normal match and especially ranked solo q when your team does not surrender at 15 min or 20 min depending on what's happening for example I was playing ranked vs a zed and i ended up feeding him so I say ff at 15 but everyone else is like "no we can win this just farm and we will scale into late" then they get the back lash of me feeding zed they still don't want to surrender which leads to the 20 - 30 mins of pointless defending with 0 towers 0 drakes and barely any kills phase and they ALWAYS get their hopes up when they get the kill on the zed that misplaced himslef . like ik they are trying to keep a positive mindset but people just need to realize when a game is lost and need to accept it instead of wasting 30 mins waiting for the enemy to do elder and baron then end.

This is coming from a bronze/sliver btw so don't be surprised by what I said (not trying to be rude)

Because people are dumb

BoringLittleF7/10/2018, 9:13:58 AM1 votes

If there would be an option to leave the game that would be more insulting to the enemy, people would use it more often.
