Trolling, Flaming, and Punishment

Riot, I love your game, but your attitude toward your playerbase is not where it should be, in my honest opinion.

Trolls run rampant in the game, running down mid, inting to go 0-8, leaving lane to let their laner take inhib, and yet I have literally NEVER seen one banned. Ever. Never.

Meanwhile when players get so damn frustrated by this behavior they start to lose their shit, they're the ones getting reported and punished. How on earth is that fair? If you have someone on your team, in your job, someone that you depend on, and they're willfully making your life harder and purposefully putting no effort in, just to ruin your progress (usually along the lines of "this team doesn't deserve a win", which should be a damn bannable phrase already), then you have every right to lose your shit and flame them, because THEY are the problem. Sure, flaming doesn't "help", and I'm not excusing racism or homophobia or any nonsense like that, but trolls are the problem in your game. Trolls and feeders. Every game has flamers and to some extent, I really think you all need to get over that.

First timing a champ in ranked, going 0-12, 0-8, 0-10, these aren't "bad games". People playing bad games have assists and apologize to their team for playing badly. Trolls just keep diving and dying, which is what I report, and it never gets solved.

And no, I'm not salty because I got banned or anything. I'm not chat restricted or anything, but I'm afraid I'M going to get punished because players that play on "smurf accounts" (no way they're smurfs if they're this bad) are trolling.

Inb4 "flaming is never acceptable", fine. I admit sometimes I talk when I shouldn't in-game. Everyone has had a game like that, and I work on it just as I work on improving my game mechanics. When someone has a bad game and admits it and says they're just looking to get carried, it's fine. If I see effort, I appreciate it, even if you're an 0-6 top laner just trying to get to late game, I understand it. I've been there. But I've never been 0-12 and running it down mid only to not be punished. That's the attitude that destroys the game, not flaming, especially when there's a damn mute button. And troll behavior shouldn't have to be repeated to be reportable or bannable. It should be a one time thing. Once, then punished, then that person doesn't do it again or they're punished. Because while yes, I understand it's a game and it's meant to be fun, it's not fun to play with people like this at all, especially when I'm grinding out games to raise my LP, and then lose it easily due to stuff like this.

I'm sure that the comments on here will just try to shut me down bc "if you flame you're bad", "just carry yourself out of low elo", "lol im a message board warrior that wants to work for Riot so bad that I'll act like a moderator". Fine, do whatever you want, I truly do not care the slightest bit. I just want some sort of employee at Riot to see this POSSIBLY, and POSSIBLY think some more about how the reporting system just isn't effective currently, or at least not to the extent it should be.

I agree very much with you. Played the game for 6 seasons and the punishments are getting more and more severe but the toxicity is increasing too. Its like RIOT is fighting fire with fire a tactic that often only works best when used as a preventive measure not a combative measure. What I have said many times is that the huge chat restrictions that used to exist should be the punishment. Back in season 2 I was kind of a little shit and got like 300 game chat restriction. It sure was lonely sitting in the corner all season.

Funny you say they are fighting fire with fire, lol, when that's exactly what they keep telling us they are trying to discourage.

I like you

The issue is obviously a technical one, not an issue of "attitude." Detecting flaming in chat is much easier than detecting specific behaviors. There's a lot of gray area with regards to detecting behavior, and trolling can easily be made to look like just playing poorly.
