It’s Sad the Best Way to Fight Toxic Behavior Is to Not Do Anything About It During the Game
Yeah, we have all read the same tips again and again. "Mute and report afterward." It doesn't matter if another player tells you they're going to rape your mom. It doesn't matter if they tell you to kill yourself. It doesn't matter if they use every bad word under the sun. You're supposed to mute them (and thus you stop engaging with them) and then report them when the game is done.
It's how you keep your own account clean. It's how you get the highest honor rates (seriously).
It's just sad that this is the equivalent of how many schools in America tell you to endure the bullying and then (hopefully) let the system work itself out. A lot of schools tell you to curl up in a ball and just let the bullies pound on you. It's "bad" if you fight back.
On one hand, I understand the sentiment. Let's not add further fuel to the fire, but League is a toxic game. It hasn't changed much now in 2020 (as I have quit the game off and on over the years). Just today, I had my bot lane flame me as a scapegoat because they wanted something to blame. I muted them and then reported them afterward. All I can do is hope they'll get some kind of punishment eventually.
By Riot's rules, I have done the right thing, but it still doesn't feel good. Riot really does give toxic players a lot of leeway to be toxic. It doesn't solve the problem as we continue to go in circles about this topic.
Sigh. Mute and report afterward... I suppose.
