Don't say GG at the end of the game.
Because whether you intended it in good will or not, you look like an ass to the enemy team, because I can tell you the enemy team most certainly did not have a good game. They had to suffer through 20mins of being handicapped, and probably died a lot because of it, and all in all the game was basically ruined for them.

The other team doesn't see you as an ass. And in my experience, most will say gg, sorry for the afk. I'm just not seeing an issue with it. I doubt if a team was down a player, yet they still had to suffer through a roflstomp, because they were handicapped the other team would come walking up with their hand outstretched. To me, that's unsportsmanlike

And to me its sportsmanlike to acknowledge and say good game to an opponent regardless of the outcome of the game. Win or lose, if you played to your best, and they played to theirs, I'm going to say gg. Because regardless of the handicap, it would be rude imo not to acknowledge their efforts.

Actually that's very sportsmanlike. The handshake after the game is a sign of mutual respect and a way of saying "thanks for playing". Sure, you might add something like "sorry you were outnumbered" or the likes, but especially when the other team got essentially screwed over, a gesture of respect is very important in my opinion.

MisterHealYoGirl5 votesAlthough 'gg' literally means 'good game', most people interpret it as 'thank you for playing a game with me'. In that sense, it's totally appropriate.
Aerilus1 votesWhen you say it to your team yeah.. but otherwise it's usually interpreted as an insult to people who obviously had an unfair game. So 'good game' is like them saying I completely destroyed you, fairly, even if 1-2 were afk. That's not how I see it, but that's how pretty much everyone reacts when I see people saying gg.

How about we raise awareness for the real problem:
Either Stop using GG to mean "Oh my god the game is over mid just fed 2 kills" or "easy game LOL U GUYS SUK"
Aerilus1 votesIt's just assumed now that's what people mean when they say gg. Not by me, but by pretty much everyone else. Instead I will usually say gg to specific 1-2 people on the other team that I thought were working really well with their team.
DJColdCutz2 votesYou're right. Everyone gets offended by different stuff, so we should be careful what we say in the end game lobby of any game, and especially in ones that were unfair to begin with. We don't want anyone to get triggered by our words! What some call sportsmanship might hurt others emotionally, and a lot of the people in this thread really need to consider that before being so judgmental.

But neither me nor any of my friends take any offense whatsoever when somebody writes "gg" after a 4v5, so saying that you will look like an ass to the enemy team is a bit of a stretch. You will look like an ass to some people who don't understand (either by ignorance or by choice of intentional misunderstanding) that saying "gg" has become the equivalent of a handshake in e-sports.
