Reports

So I was just wondering, does reporting do anything? I was in a game recently where someone was flaming and mocking the whole team for the last 15 - 20 minutes of the match (this was unranked btw). As usual I reported them at the end, but does reporting actually work? (Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has already been answered before).
