Is roaming a viable option, I have had success with it, but am not sure if it is considered troll to not stay bot/whatever lane is left (blind pick). Thoughts?

Of course its viable option. High elo supports spend very little time bot lane they roam constantly. Thats how u climb as support.

I am saying not necessarily calling support or going bot often/ever in laning phase.

Its not. Some players in games might call u troll, just report them. Just try to win and try to have fun.
