Position Ranking and how its destroying Solo Queue

Big Brain Zed··5 votes·3,096 views

While in thought positional ranking is great on paper, its terrible in execution. It would only be good if everyone got their own role, and if they don't change roles ever, and never got filled. It's god awful now, with the way it done. Every other game you get a feeder or some guy "trying out new champs" in RANKED on a role he doesn't play cause to him it doesn't matter, he loses 3 to 4 LP on his main role, he may as well have dodged. Instead of him dodging and not making the rest of his team suffer and lose 15 to 19 LP, he gets away scott free with trolling, feeding, or if you just don't like your comp in champ select and don't wanna dodge, you buy a support or jg item and go to those areas, and it counts as a game for that role.

You have people who don't play mid in mid lane who don't know how to roam, rotate or shove, but they don't care, cause they aren't punished for playing a role or champ they don't know in Solo Queue. While I'm not against trying new things in game, a player that feeds or hard loses a game cause he doesn't know his champ or role shouldn't get a slap on the wrist for fucking with his team. You shouldn't be able to change summoner spell to exhaust, buy a support item and sit bot, and get a loss for another role if you're in your top promos for example and not get punished. It's encouraging more trolling and nonsense even moreso in low elo, where everyone who dies 2 minutes in cause they dotn respect creep damage that "This wont doesn't matter FOR ME, I'll only lose 3 LP on Mid". It creates a stupid mindset where the win doesnt matter, cause the loss doesn't matter either.

Please find a way you can stop the abuse of this system, or get rid of it entirely. Maybe just get rid of LP splashing, position swapping the LP rewarding, or just revert us back to one rank across all roles. But this is destroying low and high elo alike.

I want just one MMR for all roles. I want to completely get rid of LP.

I don't think those players realize Riot is working on better swap detection or that consistantly trolling off-positions may increase the splashing. Also, the system is still new. It'll take some time to detect how much LP splashing is needed.

wait until dual-top becomes a thing again...

they queue as jungler, play as jungler starting as a "support" style role in top lane and then roam to other lanes

it'll just try to place them in top lane as a mistake, a mistake like every hastily thought out "solution" to non-prevalent problems

Considering even the old system for determining what role someone was playing sperates Lane (Top) from Role (Solo, Duo Carry, Duo Support, or just Duo if they're both taking the CS), I find it extremely unlikely that would be a problem for the improved system.

the same system that people have now figured out lets marksman and support switch but not other lanes? because they're in the same lane...

now that could be easily tweaked or fixed, but this is the same group that thought it would be fun to play with 4 randoms against a team made with a premade of 4 before the solo queue and flex split...

You realise that the players who are playing other positions have a different MMR right?

My support rank is silver2 and matched with people of similar skill level, but my mid rank is bronze3 and I'm matched against bronzies. While I suck at wave clear and matchups in the midlane, my warding and positioning knowledge from support still translate to the mid lane. Even though I lose lane, I put up a good fight mid game and it kind of makes up for my crappy CS early.

Not true, sorry. The mmr for all roles are linked, do terribly on one role get shit mmr on another. Riot made a post about this themselves.

I've seen people say that before, but when I ask for a link (cos I might be missing some information), I never get a link.

You got one you can provide?

They talk about LP splash and lane swapping in the latest (as of this post) Ask Riot.

That's LP splashing, not shared/linked MMR between positions.

The point between positiional ranks is that the autofilled support dude isn't matched against people at a his normal level where the autofilled is unfamiliar with champs, matchups or even their roles.

Fair enough. It was the closest to what I understood the other poster was talking about.
