Has anyone EVER reformed after chat restrictions?

I got my first penalty ever a few days ago. At first i was a bit crushed, cause i thought i was completely fine in the games prior. In one of the games listed, i will admit, i flamed like a bitch, but that's not the point

In the 8 games or so i've played of the 10, I've found myself getting more and more irratable and irrational ironically enough. The restrictions don't allow a squabble to just be over and done in less than a minute, they drawlllll out all game, distracting EVERYONE.

Me, meanwhile, I say "Push top". I use up my message for the next four minutes of gameplay, I'm unable to warn people that there are 5 mid and that they're doing a balls-to-the-wall skype-call cling-together strat. Everyone goes for 1 guy, then the other, then another. I try to tell my team "Group mid, team shoving", and what do i see? "You were unable to send this message. Your next available chat message will be available in (4 mins or so)"

This pisses me off, my team starts flaming me because i get caught 1v5ing mid and die after flashing and trying to dash away from the garen-blitz-viegar-ashe-jax CC and Silence machine.

"OMG BLANC WHY U SUCK" *pings my used flash 7 times"

-cant say anything-

-pings that everyone's alive and pings a danger and assist ping in mid- -everyone continues oblivious- -tower gets destroyed- "OH MY FUCKING GOD BLONK YOU VEGTABLE"

Overall, the time i've had to endure with a chat penalty literally made me MORE toxic overall. I'm gonna try to cool my jets and be a better person, but if i ever get another of these shitty things you can bet your top dollar it'll be 25 games of tyler1 level pissed-offed-ness

So, i ask again

have any of you actually been encouraged to reform by a chat restriction?

I mean, in my opinion, all of the things you mentioned that you can't tell your team due to a chat restriction could have been communicated through clever use of your pings.

I've never had a chat restriction, usually my teammates and I communicate almost solely through pings. And we're talking completely random teammates here. You'd be surprised how much more organized and pleasurable games can be if you just talk less and ping more.

Edit: Just to add for clarification. I mean stuff like pinging dragon timer at 1 minute left, pinging enemy ward locations with the new enemy ward ping, pinging omw when I go to roam away from my ADC a bit to establish vision control. I'll even watch the minimap often for the enemy jungler and ping ping mid or whoever is closest to assist him if he gets invaded. (If he's not already panic pinging himself lol)

Not stuff like spamming the same ping over and over again, especially like using the "?" ping on a caught out teammate.

Oooooor alternatively, you stop squabbling. If you did, you wouldn't find yourself out of messages in crucial moments. Your example actually shows very nicely that chat restrictions give you a huge incentive to reform. But in the end, an incentive is just that: An incentive. You still have to choose to embrace that incentive and accept responsibility for your own actions for it to work.

So to answer your question:

Yes. People have been encouraged to reform by chat restrictions. You have been encouraged to reform by your chat restriction. You just chose to refuse that "offer" and instead blame it for the problems it is meant to help you with.

I got chat restricted a couple years ago. I wouldn't necessarily say I "reformed" though as I didn't really deserve it in the first place, even though there are tons of "I got punished and didn't deserve it" type threads. I didn't even get chat logs just a random "You are chat restricted". I don't flame or rage or insult other players so to this day I still have no idea why I got it.

That was the only punishment I ever received since I first started playing way back in 2011 or 2012. At honor level 3 now.

You are totally right my man, Riot is TERRIBLE at figuring out which is the true troll of the game. Just got a 14 day ban because my jungler fed their team, but he got his 2 other buddies to report me so I'm the criminal here. Last dollar I ever give riot and their over hyped game that is designated blame game. This game will slowly fall to nothing but dust, there are a ton of better games to play for 2017 besides this garbage.

So far, VERY few people if any have actually paid attention to the topic at hand, most people just complaining and groaning and nitpicking

@Telephone Booth No, i am not saying i expect better treatment from a company that doesnt give half a rats ass bout us the customers, I am ASKING people if any of them actually wanted to be better after pointless abuse of a penalty system. If every ticket were well deserved, hell this thread wouldnt exist, But if you got a slap on the wrist for calling your JG an idiot after pinging for help all game and getting none, would that make you say "Gee i wanna be a saint now, everyone come exploit my over-kindness! I got plenty to spare!" or would you say "what the fuck rito? I did nothing"

Get back to the topic.

@TrulyBland Half the time, said squabbles are a general misunderstanding, which can be done and gone in 30 seconds and leave the game going onwards. Sometimes you just ignoring them realllly pisses them off and somehow i often get the blame anyways And actually, you seem a lot like my teammates. You broadly avoid the point of this message. Every person who has been penalty struck tends to not change -at all- and thats a notable issue.

Also, the "every team is equal" saying is aggrivating alone, especially when people dont understand it themselves. If i am a casual player (not striving to become a pro) but i take normal games semi seriously, doesnt mean I'm instantly some challenger korean smurf. Also, games ARENT balanced. Some level 30s drag their level 15 newbies who dont even CS at all, and sometimes your entire team is unranked or bronzies but BAM a gold player or plat player nyooms in from the sidelines randomly and carries their asses to victory

And sure, it might be "incentive" to want to be better, but if you dangle a rotting moldy piece of meat infront of a person, do you think that they'd accept? No. If you dangled it infront of a dog, sure, but a normal person?

Theres a reason that people who grow up in punishment filled childhoods end up being the more cruel or mentally unstable. Being smacked upside the head repeatedly for doing something mildly aggrivating doesnt make a person reflect on their life choices and strive to be better, it just pisses em off. Tell them what they're doing wrong, give em that warning, THEN its up to them to change what they did wrong and better themselves, leave em guessing till they get a major penalty and its just a "hey u did a bad ok now u suffer for something you might not realise you do byenow"

Finally, often my team IS capable, theyre just i n c r e d i b l y unobservant and never do the SENSIBLE thing. If i try to shotcall they don't listen, but they're usually passable/good players

And finally, @Toshiai thats an obvi lie, the system doesn't register "nub" as offensive or racist

Mizuki Zahra8/22/2017, 4:12:45 PM1 votes

i got a chat restriction for saying nub cause it was apparently a racial slur which makes no sense
