Raw undeveloped idea for behavior

If you got this far... What if there were a by default silenced channel in game ...

The Trash Chat.

So then you'd have PMs, system messages, ally chat, all chat, and then trash chat. Can only opt into trash chat voluntarily. Only the Insta-ban stuff is not allowed in trash talk (racism, suicide encouragement, etc). Looks like

Zed (2gud4u) Trash: lol u popped so ez

Then flame away.

The issue isn't that Riot hasn't found a way to allow trash talk, they just don't want it on their platform.

Like yeah, it would work and it would be a decent solution to help curb some repeat offenders or people who enjoy it, but ultimately Riot chooses not to do it because they don't want to promote or encourage that behavior.

This reminds me of the Prisoner's Island idea, which Riot is against. Yes this would be opt-in but why make something like that when players could just be mature and responsible and not flame others for X reason? Also, it's no longer trash talk if you're just talking like trash. At the end of the day Riot is not a babysitter, and players need to take responsibility for their actions rather than look for ways to abuse and harass others consequence free, which is what this idea sounds like it's for (yes I know you said ZTP stuff wouldn't be allowed but that's beside the point). This is a game, not a venting platform.

Trash talk is already allowed, as long as it doesn't cross the line. Problem is, people are always trying to move the line.

It's worth noting that Riot says the vast majority of the player base not only uses chat appropriately, but in a way that is pretty much indistinguishable from being under a chat restriction. That is, they use a greeting, say "GG" at the end and maybe a couple of things during the match. That being the case, there's no real point to Riot creating a special place for people to indulge their worst impulses. There aren't enough people who would use it and many of those that did wouldn't accept that there would still be restrictions within that channel.

So what's the problem space you are trying to tackle and how does your solution solve the problem?

Nah. If it was anything goes, I'd support it. But you still want there to be rules for the trash chat channel.
