Guide to Not Receiving Trolls

Hey everyone,

After a couple years of playing, testing out the theories and such, I have a guide to significantly reducing the amount of trolls you receive in match making. With these rules in place, I have found the amount of trolls I have encountered have reduced and total enjoyment of the games has increased, helping me reach silver quick than what I did last season.

  1. Never play after midnight - League of Legends is very much like gremlins. Never feed them after midnight, and this is incredibly relevant to avoiding trolls. As most of the servers players have gone to bed at this point, the player pool is significantly reduced. Meaning that you are more likely to be matched with people who enjoy flaming and tilting players than playing the actual game itself.

  2. Always lobby up with friends - This will drastically the likelihood of a troll being paired with you. Not only will this be fun and bond building as you create connections with other people through the game, but I have found that trolls are more responsive when the rest of the team call them out on their bad behaviour.

  3. Have a ranked spot above Iron or low Bronze - I have found that the most toxic and saltiest players have had low ranked accounts, statistically this will reduce the chances of trolls who have had to rely upon smurf or alternative accounts

  4. Mute the chat - If absolute worst comes to worst, /mute all will mute everyone's messages but keep their pings intact. Just because you have a troll on the team doesn't mean the game is impossible to win. /Mute all will help you focus on playing your role and even possibly bring you the victory in spite of the troll

  5. Block the trolls - Blocking players after the game is very helpful. Should you be paired with them, your blockage of them will be notified in the champion selection lobby by a message saying "player ______ is on your block list. All messages from ______ will be hidden". After this notification you have the decision to play on with them with the knowledge you can mute them, or you can dodge and accept the penalties that come from dodging in champion selection.

Just remember, League of Legends is a lawless land. Trolling will never be a reportable offence in the post game selection, and most trolls will get away with their actions. However, toxic behaviour and verbal abuse is reportable offence. Never sink to their low, never abuse them no matter how hard they are tower diving as it will only result in them enjoying it and you receive a nice 10 game chat ban and lock on the honour system.

Good luck and good gaming!
