An increase in Toxicity.

To whoever is reading this,

I don't know if this is happening to you but it is happening to myself and quite a few friends of mine who play this game. Lately, over the last month or so, there has been a massive increase in toxicity in league. At least, from what I am seeing. Now I'm not a high ranking player. I generally get to mid Silver by end of season and obviously there is always some level of toxicity that comes with that. I cannot speak for higher ranks but I'd assume it to be the same or close to unless you're in the Professional league. The kicker is, its not even just in ranked. Normal games are having tons, generally 2-4 people who just rage, curse, demean, or are generally negative throughout the game. This weekend was incredibly bad in terms of toxicity in the all for one mode and in normal's. So much so, that I even lost my cool towards the end of it. And here is why.

I'm tired of always taking the honorable road. I mute the players, I don't have all chat on, I report toxic players when they appear, and it just seems like a never ending job. And that's the problem. It's becoming an increasing chore to have to do this when all I want to do is enjoy the game. Usually League will post a survey on how they find the player base and three of the last four survey's I've had to say the layer base has negatively influenced my game play. Furthermore, it's getting worse in my opinion.

I'm not sure what to do to fix this. The tribunal system has been removed from existence as far as I know, the bot system doesn't seem to be working well enough, and I feel like I'm the one being punished for being on good behavior. And before the board trolls chime in; I'm not advocating to be allowed to flame people. We have enough of that in League right now as it is. What we need, is a system that works. Something that is either stricter, more efficient, or at very least known. I think the fear of the Tribunal, knowing that it was up and working helped curve some of the toxic behavior in itself. Another option I feel that needs to be addressed is the end game report.

_You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. _

This is what I think of every time the end game shows up. Here, toxic attitudes shine through. One, because people believe you're untouchable here and two because there is a loser at this point. No one likes to lose and some people just cannot handle it. So, they rage and release the most vile abuse they can before you either leave or they do. I think removal of the end game report is something that should be considered.

What about my honors?

This system needs a rehaul. I get the honor system still exists but in the last three years; I've not known a single person to have been given a ribbon for it. Maybe it's time to just add additional IP to the end of a match or allow you to add honors without having a chat option. I'm not sure what the best method is but somethings got to change.

I love league. I enjoy playing it, but lately the resurgence of pure hate is pushing me away. I hope I'm not the only one and I honestly hope Riot can fix it. Thanks for reading.

I agree, though it's been increasing since season 4; seen someone make a post about using the honor system to minorly affect ranked point gains & losses so honor has meaning. I like the idea but I doubt that it'll help.

If you hard carried your lane you'd see a lot less BM, just saying.

You are having a lot of bad games because you're probably getting a lot of games with other people who belong in mid silver and that can be frustrating.

Well, think about me, i get flamed because diamond 3 and below players™ are stupid enough to not figure out how wave management works so in their eyes helping them push after a gank where the wave cannot be freezed in their favor is trolling and the obvious response to that is to come in my jungle and try to steal my camps missing like 2 waves in their lane, how should i feel about this?

First of all you have to define what you consider "toxic", is saying "soraka it's 26 minutes into the game why the fuck you don't have a sightstone yet?" toxic to you?

Or it's attempting to disrupt the interests of the team through risible insults, destructive criticism or playing bad on purpose because the player we're speaking of is a spineless maggot?

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Also this, now i'm going to sing like a disney villain brb.

-edit- also let's address the elephant in the room

have you ever realized that the main reason about toxicity besides a poor personality of the very player which is a rare case compared to the vast majority derives from the fact that riot keeps people ignorant about the game? have you ever watched a korean replay or one of the teamfight breakdowns (one of the few things riot did good ever), do you know what wave management is? do you know what is a rotation or orb walk? Well, if you don't know these things you CAN'T play league of legends as a basic level, you're throwing a dice otherwise, and until D3 which i consider to be the level zero you don't even know stuff like that, basically players D3 and below ARE NOT playing the game, they're just throwing their dice and attempting some luck, if you teach players how to play 90% of the toxicity will disappear in a couple of months.

Ruining others game is a fun for many. Too many. If they would ban them, 30-40% of their playerbase would be disapper. This is bad for managers, who need to report player base increase (not decrease) to the shareholders. Money talks.

We understand that you want to get word out about this player and their in-game behaviors but this is not the correct avenue to get attention on them. Please continue to use our in-game reporting system to put these players through our behavioral systems.< And this is the Riot response for this problems

In general silver is flooded with higher elo smurf/boosters/super salty people mad because they are silver so it's probably the closest thing to Plat V in toxicity and Diamond V in trolling.

Yeah the toxicity has been getting worse for a long time now. We NEED a complete overhaul of the report system. Scrap it and start over. I'm sick and tired of tolerating toxic people in all my games. I take insults thinking "oh I can just report them after the game", but the problem is very little happens. I consistently report any kind of toxicity in my games because I'm fed up with it. So personally I have very little patience for these people. I'm not perfect myself, but the current report system simply isn't good enough. I want far more details on reporting and the system in general. Tolerating toxicity only to report them after the game isn't satisfying enough. It's not a solution. I don't know if these people actually face repercussions for their actions, I don't know if my reports even mean anything at all. Some sort of a tab in the client that outlines the report system would be incredible helpful. I'd like to see stats on all kinds of stuff. % of reports that result in bans/penalties, % of reports per game, history of reported players etc. I'm really fed up with toxicity in the community and in many of my games. The report system is broken. It feels like despite my attempts to stay honourable and write constructive paragraphs in the post game lobby in the reports' comment section - nothing happens.

It's not so much an increase, but just when people get ban they need to make a new account and as such they'll just be more likely to be seen because of how different the MMR is towards the regular player!

Sadly the best we can do is report people like that and hopefully others do the same when they get into a game with those types of people. And riot will take care of it!

It isn't just toxic players that are ruining. Every 3 games there is a kid, aged 10 I presume - who steals your champ in select or bans it even though it is pick intended. Then runs around in game doing whatever he wants. All because they get away with it. This is due to 2 or 3 reports from team if they are bothered as enemy see trolls as a blessing and never report even if they can see it blatantly.

I want everyone has to be chat restricted, to eliminate toxicity. Like restrict everyone to 1 sentence of 50 letters every minute Then if anyone wants to argue, they can wait a minute to carry on. Also trolls removed from ranked by adding a condition that they must have a performance rating average of B in normals.
