PSA: Riot is not cracking down on verbal toxicity harder than trolls...

To everyone who think that they don't give a shit about trolls- They do. Here's a little evidence of this. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/sU5wOfFJ-proof-that-the-automated-system-is-broken?comment=0029 Alright, now since that is out of the way, let me make my point clear. Riot evenly goes after trolls and toxic chat players. "But why don't I see that many people get banned for trolling?" Most trollers know why they got banned, know that they can't prove their defense, and usually move onto a smurf account to continue trolling. Trolling takes a long time to catch as there are many ways to troll, and the system can't identify them all. "But Riot is just banning me for chat because the League community is full of children!" No, you were banned because of consistent negative behavior, not because people can't take a swear word. You can swear all you want in games, but when you direct anything negative towards your fellow team, you become report-worthy. "But I was defending myself!" Riot has stated that retaliation helps no one. An eye for an eye makes the world go blind. Wait, you want another example? OK, imagine two kingdoms were in very tense relations in one another. One kingdom sends bandits to harass the other. In response, the other kingdom does the same. Eventually both lands are ravaged by bandits and everything falls apart. "But my free spee-" http://imgur.com/kwRIfOi Don't even use that.

So why do more people get banned for chat than people banned for trolling? Simply put, chat is more common, and easier to detect. Trolling is less common, harder to detect, and must differentiate between a bad player or a legitimate troll. That guy who went 0/7/6? Either he was trolling (in which case, provide video proof and send it in a support ticket- more on that next) or he was doing really terrible. That player going AP Kog'Maw mid? Not trolling, as it is a legitimate thing to do. It's called going off-meta. Which Riot has stated many times is not reportable. Now, say that you found a trolling player and he says he has been doing this for a month now. You can report him for trolling, adding one more tally mark to his record before he gets checked, or, the much more efficient option, Submit a support ticket. https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Here you can tell Riot support about X player and what he is doing. If you get a copy paste response (you will get those, these poor guys get so many requests), then ask for a human review. Remember that it becomes so much more helpful if you have live proof of this player trolling.

That is all I have to say on this matter.

It's because some people's definition of a troll is basically whatever they disagree with.

I mean no. They really don't. People can intentionally feed and AFK game after game with no punishment, and that's just not true for verbal abuse. I've seen it on dozens of accounts. The system is not harsh at all: you really need to try to get banned for intentional feeding, and even it's even worse for trolling. I've only seen like three of those bans ever given out (though, to be fair, most people that troll would get caught faster for chatting, so it's possible that the situation of a non-chatting troller itself is causing that).

I get quite a few notifications when someone has been punished for their crap behavior. If it's an especially bad case, it's within a few minutes of my return to the client. So obviously Riot is doing something about it, if this forum keeps getting piled up high with people complaining about their bans.

wow. cant believe this thread you linked, riot actually is doing something about trolls! i guess it just takes forever.

i mean i know if you get reported like every game and the system cant find anything riot will eventually take a look themselfes on you but who knows how long that takes? i remember my season 3 time in bronze where i was rocking top with bruiser thresh and i got at least 1 report each game "for trolling" even when i carried. i wonder if someone from riot ever looked at my profile?

Oh darn guys, he has one thread from over a month ago. Guess that means trolls get banned just as frequently as verbally toxic people!
