So I just played a game... the enemy team had two players with the club name of, "Suicide is the answer." and the tag of "KYS"

Why is this allowed? They said it was their religion... but honestly there is no place for that on League...

I know people who battle depression on a daily basis, they play league because it helps them get their mind off things and get them through the tough times. There is NO PLACE for someone to tell someone to kill themselves. I don't care if it is your religion.

League has toxic players. I get that. You can mute them, but a club dedicated to telling others to end their own life is awful and I never want to see it again...

I hope you will do something about this soon, Riot Games.

(Edited) I reported it yes. On the spot. It's not offensive to most people because you have never lost a friend to suicide.

Yes, people who are depressed needs REAL HELP, but that is not to say that names like this should be allowed or are not offensive. Telling people to "Lighten up." "Take a joke." and "Get over it." Doesn't help the situation of the fact that they themselves said, "Suicide is the best way to get out of being stoic."

Stoic means: A person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or complaining.

For people who suffer from depression, they would know it comes in MANY different ways. Sure, some can keep a light heart about it. Others can't. People who are defending the names and tags, you are encouraging the chance of someone, ANYONE, can take their life in seeing these.

It isn't about having a winner, "I can't make jokes." "Well I don't wanna see this." The point is, it is serious to some to a point where A LIFE COULD BE LOST. Yes, IT IS THE INTERNET! But that does not mean you can just start saying things you KNOW could hurt someone.

Riot Games has standard, rules and regulations. When a friend says "Kys" to me in chat, I can take it as a joke, because I know them, and I know they love me. When someone I have never met before says it, I don't laugh, because it is not funny.

I should go without saying, to anyone. You should NEVER; even as a joke to people who do not know you; tell anyone to kill themselves.

Yea, people can come up with some dumb as hell club names/player names. Just report under inappropriate name, with a note about the club name. Mark hate speech if the name does have it.

Also, since I might have your attention, I wanted to confirm something else that I've seen circulating. Is it true that we only get that "we busted someone you reported" pop-up when the automated system applies a punishment? We don't get it if an actual Rioter had to do a review?

The Instant Feedback System gives you a message if your report helped get them a punishment for that game, if I remember correctly.

A Rioter doesn't always have to review, and almost never because the IFS does a good job of tackling many cases of toxicity and inappropriate behavior.

Funny how I reported a guy in a normals the other day who called someone the N word, and still haven't heard anything from a rioter about his punishment... Guess punishment only applys in ranked games it seems.

I have some hot fresh answers for you. Yes, reporting an inappropriate name with a note does work in the case of an inappropriate club tag. If it is an especially egregious tag, you can also file a player support ticket.

On the reporting front: It doesn't matter what the ultimate source of the punishment is, man or machine: The system will issue feedback to reporting players.

You "can", but he's not wrong. Every time I've filed a support ticket for anything along these lines, with screenshots, they just respond with something akin to "we can't help, make sure to report in game". I've done it in the past, because reds suggest that we do. However, when you do, support claims that they cannot help at all.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think it is fine having offensive club tags like KYS, since it is a "joke", which does sound wrong. But in the end, it is just dark humor, and not intended to harm any specific person, like actually saying "KYS u virg %%%got (etc.)" to someone in the game, where you are directing hate towards someone and not trying to be humorous at all... I know some people might not be able to take dark humor jokes, but honestly, it is what the internet is flooded with: jokes of many types, including dark humor. So, I think it would be fine to have these bad as long it is not actually aiming hatred toward a specific person/individual

the fact that these kids dont think it should be taken seriously is part of why it is offensive. when one of your friends has committed suicide it is very serious.

If someone reads these tags and think to themselves "man suicide IS the answer, I should do it right now", that tells me they are not right in the head, and need professional help. To think that these meaningless tags are the problem here is utter nonsense (IMO!).

On the 'offensive' part, I don't think it's bad to be offensive. Parents can teach their kids the value of life, then these kids will know how serious suicide really is.

Making jokes about it is a coping mechanism. It's a way to deny access to any negative thoughts that lead to stress/depression. Yes, these jokes will be offensive (not every time though), but in order to stay strong, and ready for tomorrow, you have to live with them. Everybody has to.

Just because being an asshole isn't illegal doesn't mean you should be one? And also clinically depressed people can't "stay strong". If you can just "stay strong" you're not clinically depressed you're sad. Two very different things. Clinically depressed people have a serious illness that makes it so they CAN'T think about these things in the same way as other people, ofc every person is different and will be affected differently, but clinically depressed people will tend to not respond to positive reinforcement, but instead focus on negative reinforcements from the outside world. They will focus on absolutely anything that makes them feel worse about themselves, even when there's no reason to. That's why it's an illness.

So yea. Take it from someone whose spouse has been suffering from depression since she was 15. This shit is not funny. And there is no reason whatsoever to tolerate it, cause it's a joke so bad that noone thinks it's funny, and it actually hurts people that are predisposed to not being capable of HANDLING that hurt. Normal people who are hurt get over it. Depressed people who are hurt do not, with potentially lifeending consequece.

So as a person who copes with depression and anxiety attacks I make jokes. If I get nervous I make jokes. By your logic I'm allowed to do that. Well what if that's what these people were doing?

Now to get to my non smart ass response (which is 100% true for me) People are different yes. But if we keep limiting stuff based on oh it bothers a few people then you won't be able to ever have an opinion. This might offend people but to others (including me) I would've laughed my butt off. People need to not take everything so literally and just have fun with it. Just to put it in perspective almost every person affected by depression I work with (I volunteer to show people it's possible to beat it) they would rather joke about it rather than get mad at people who do joke about it. Because it promotes positive thinking which the world does not have enough of nowadays. So in my mind if you get offended at everything that isn't 100% confirmed to be offensive then that tells me you are a negative thinker. Laugh have fun and joke around enjoy life don't go around trying to limit other peoples fun/coping methods.

I think there is an inherent difference between someone having a racy name or clan tag, where there is no target, and directing at someone specifically to encourage them to commit suicide. Seeing the clan tag may be depressing in some way, but it is worlds less emotionally hurtful than having someone single you out personally and wish harm upon you.

Alright then let us ask around. Who here is ACTUALLY in a depressive state at the moment or have been in the last year or two and are willing to reply their thoughts on the matter? I want to know how they feel and hopefully we can all move through this. And if there are people who are distraught by the club names and tags then of course I'll report in the future for them.

So here's my thoughts. Having struggled with depression for part of my middle school and all my years of high school, I know that life often sucks or it feels like it does. I had no real friends (doesn't help having those Aquarius traits which I learned about after) and I've experienced bullying. I didn't even have a phone and I couldn't go anywhere from my house so I felt left out of everything and it looked like everyone was passing me by. But still I think that somewhere along the road, there's a chance that things will go upwards from here. That means that I'll keep going until that moment no matter what. I'm two years into college and I'm not as severely depressed anymore since feeling depressed all the time is tiring and I wanted that to stop. Suicide was a thought, but making it a bad joke is helpful for me. The tags and names don't bother me and playing games and watching cats doing cat things are more fun than dying imo. "Pfft suicide? lol nah xXsasuke69Xx, I'd rather play video games and meme m9."

For me this is pointless and should be punished with regular 14 days ban nothing more nothing less. But if you want your point to work you should ban also everything that is religious because if someone say OMG ( Oh my god) someone can be offended because name of god was taken lightly. So technically speaking every religious or political stuff should receive same punisment as this.

And people who say depression is like being ill but mentally and that people with depression don't see it as joke. I am fine with that as long as you treat them that way and not like special snowflakes. So there should be same warning as for people with epilepsy. If they encounter the problem they should instantly stop.

There is no excuse for you encouraging someone to end their life, absolutely none. As a Christian myself. I can say the vain use of God's name is mute and move on. Telling someone to kill themselves can KILL SOMEONE. This isn't about other offensive things. THIS IS ABOUT THE SUBJECT OF TELLING SOMEONE TO END THEIR LIFE! What if it's just a kid? One that just says "Oh well okay I will." Mental illness means they do crazy things sometimes. You could have someone die, for a "joke".

Ever heard of "Pranks gone wrong." The kid hiding in the mailbox in Mexico pushing mail out when it was dropped in, and surprise someone wasn't having that and pulled a gun out and killed him.

Or in my case. My best friend. Told by some idiot on the internet that he should kill himself because it wasn't worth it. Someone who was "just joking around and not serious at all" He was looking for help, venting his problems and someone just said... "Just kill yourself dude, lol"

No one would kill themselves over "Oh my God, Becky." They just get mad and annoyed.

There is no excuse and no argument to justify telling someone to die. None.

I lost my role model to suicide, a dude about 5 years older than me who used to babysit me

actually there's a 'suicide epidemic' in my homestate right now, a lot of people in my small town over the last five or so years have been doing it

and in the midst of an episode involving a bad perscription, I had a loaded gun in my mouth, which failed to fire (firing pin was fucked)

now let me tell you...

you should be able to tell anyone to kill themselves

because it has no impact

those people will do it either way
