Toxicity in games.

Rammus So a while back maybe a solid week or two I came across an article and in said article RIOT claimed that their tribunal system has done amazing things such as lowering negativity in games and being like a toxic person rehab essentially because once they were banned 90% of players no longer had offenses from there on afterwards and how the system has lowered toxicity in games to a mere 2%, but how come I find a toxic person in every game, why do I always find afk's, ragers, ping spammers, people on tilt, matching up with people who just played together and already raging at each other in champ select. In short at least one person in all of my games seems to be on tilt except me, and no matter what I seem to do ITS EVERY GAME, this is really just going to be the first game I'm going to shelf because of the community. Honestly speaking the 2% of games that have toxicity in them I must be in everyone because this is just ruining the game for me, I try to stay positive and try to keep everyone calm giving out good jobs and Its not getting better the more I play the more I find toxic people, Is anyone else having this problem because its ruining the game for me. item 3070 Amumu item 3070

Edit: Link to my other post just so people know im not pulling the 2% out of the air, contains article. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/miscellaneous/OXsJAeb6-toxic-players-and-player-support-tickets

I've kinda been feeling the same despair. I've spent a generous amount of time on this game because I love everything about it.... except its community, which seemingly hasn't improved. 9/10 times it's an absolutely miserable shit show, and that's been largely time spent in Bots. It's 95% guaranteed in regs, and I never even touched rank because fuck that noise.

I think Riot counts only counts racism, sexism, and hate speech as "toxic". Because, yeah, they keep bandying that "2%" number around like it's true in some way, and it's insanely obvious, when you're actually playing League, that far more than one in fifty games contain verbally abusive people. More like one in fifty doesn't.

I don't count things like AFKs or bad players (or good players having a bad game) or map ping spammers (as much as I loath them personally) as toxic, but that still leaves a ton of openly mean spirited behavior and caustic sportsmanship (from both winners and losers) and the ever present decision bullies (OMG STUPID NOOB you're not really going to take ignite instead of heal, are you???? REPORTED!!!), all somehow magically slipping in under Riot's "2%" radar.

The easiest thing to do is press enter to chat, then while the chat box is active, grab it by the top border and move it down, off screen. Pay attention to the map, use map pings, and even type proactive things if you want. The important thing is that you can't hear them, it's fine that they can still hear your words of encouragement or play ideas. I've been playing like that for most of the last year. No one even notices. I still get friendly honors on a routine basis. The only difference is that now I can genuinely relax and enjoy playing LoL.

And, just for the record, I try turning chat back on fairly often. Any time I get a pre-game lobby with people who seem to be friendly or in good humor. It never takes them longer than five minutes in-game to drive my chat box back off screen. Two percent. Pfft. They should just replace the "2%" with a picture of a unicorn.

Riot's numbers are straight up filthy lies, it doesn't take into consideration smurf accounts/2nd/3rd accounts and what they consider toxic and reform is a laughable state. It's comparable to saying a serial killer has reformed because he only stabs people now, no dismemberment.

This community so probably the most sensitive gaming community out there. Seriously, if someone calls you bad in game MUTE THEM. It's not difficult and works for every other game except for League apparently. If someone is taking it to a next level as in telling you to kill yourself or being racist just report them.

Because Riot is a piece of shit company that only considers something "toxic" when it's speech and not actions.

2nd time posting to the boards xD I literally just got done reading this thread when i decided its time for my weekend morning 1st game into good ol' ranked queue.

Game came up, I accepted, we all got into lobby, and people started calling their lanes. The second pick tells us hes going to jg and the last pick started to freak out.

last pick: "are you good at jg? second: doesn't respond for a couple minutes. last: "cuz every time I give jg they fuck it up." second: "go check it you dumbass." last: "im not checking shit." second: "dont talk to me like ur some badass." last: "im ganna shit talk good if im good."

seriously I can never find a game without a couple le douchbags on my team. Also checking someone's stats is easier than logging into league. This behavior and much more bullshit that I put up with every game, is ruining my favorite game.

...in other words, one of the best ways to combat toxicity is to git gud.

2% is for "homophobia, sexism and racism" according to the article the OP linked. http://www.pcgamesn.com/league-of-legends/just-2-of-league-of-legends-games-witness-abuse-claims-riot

Are you seriously telling me that you experience that much hate speech in your games? The number of toxic players is more than 2% and Riot is not trying to hide this.
