Is toxicity on the rise?

I know, I know, the League community is toxic as fuck already, that's the stereotype we all know and have heard since forever, but is it just me or are things getting worse lately?

Like, I know everyone's got toxicity stories, but I actually only ever saw someone be toxic every... say 1 in 5-10 games. They stand out in memory and make them feel more frequent, but were never really that common. In the last week however, it really has been every game or two. Speaking completely without exageration, I've had multiple games where someone ragequits 5 minutes into the game in a row. I'm seeing someone on the team hard flaming someone else almost every game. The biggest indicator that something seems wrong is I'm getting instant feedback reports of someone I reported getting punished every second game. Like, instant feedback reports used to be a rare treat, a delightful reward I'd see maybe once a month if I was lucky, but I am literally getting multiple of them per day. This seems insane to me.

So am I just having the absolute worst luck that I am getting a sudden influx of trolls or just all around terrible people in my games? Or is something else going on? Like, I know this is the first event where you can get prestige points from participating in the Trials event, and I'm sure as shit getting worn down mentally from having to play way more games than I want to be playing per day just to get Prestige Eve, and so is that what's going on? Are people being mentally broken by the event grind? Or is it because of MSI? Viewership numbers for MSI are through the roof because NA did so much better than expected, so is everyone watching the pros and getting irritated that their teammates aren't at the pro level? Is high gold-low plat just an especially toxic area of the ladder? Is it just really shitty luck on my part? Seriously, I have no idea, but this is brutal and makes the game so much more of a miserable chore to play right now.

Is anybody else noticing this or is it just me?

You're like 5 years late to ToxiCity, population millions.

A good majority of players don't enjoy this game anymore, that even the littlest things can piss them off.

If you think toxicity is bad then you did not play this game before role selection.

It is way better than past seasons.

My theory is that toxicity is on the rise ever since they implemented the safe space mentality which caused the for fun environment in ranked. Competitive players hate that.

Pretty sure it's because other players are just wasting your time when someone feeds, soft or hard, int or not (through stupidity). Trying to play the game where you're the only one trying isn't fun.

Ofc riot made the game extremely frustrating with op reworks and shitty changes.

I agree that the level of toxicity is on the rise. I am actually excited now when I make it through an entire game with only light passive aggression from my teammates because most of my games feature giving up, flaming, inting, afk farming, straight up ragequitting, you name it. My hypothesis is that the current meta seems very aggressive early game and players don't understand how to scale and come back, so if your team is the one that gets behind early, everyone gets super frustrated and thinks the team is worthless and there's no chance to win. There's also a problem with smurfs (I am in mid/high silver so it's mega smurfland) which can get pretty tilting. I keep hoping things will change. :/

about a month a go i had like 4/5 games where someone either inted greifed or afk'd. It sucked a lot lol. One of them was a higher elo. And ya know. Its ok for a plat to go into normals with people of mid silver to mid gold elo and call them all bad while he goes ludens echo ali top and purposefully screws over the team. I'm really fine with off meta. I even play Morg jg sometimes. But its different when your trying to make the game suck for your team

Everyone is toxic even you, I bet I could troll you and even get you banned.

You're approaching true elo hell, that's why.

Gold elo is the LEAST toxic elo. But high gold through mid plat is the MOST toxic elo. Bronze and Iron don't even compare to the shitstorm you face in midplat. I'm honestly surprised if I go an entire game without a single toxic player.

The reason for this: Platinum elo players know what they're talking about. Bronzies and Silvers, you'll get some basic insults, but Platinums will completely dissect your gameplay and determine whether the game is winnable based on your performance. Burned summoners and still fed first blood before minions spawned? "GG". 0/2 at 5 minutes? "GG". Jungler tried to solo dragon, died, and the enemy got the dragon? "GG". Followed your teammate into a bad spot and gave away two kills instead of one? "GG".

I honestly have not seen so many people flame, give up, or afk before 10 minutes in any elo that isn't Platinum lol.

where do people encounter this toxicity? I've been playing ARAM since about 2010 and even nowadays I rarely if ever meet any toxic people in my ARAM games

To be honest, toxicity and problems can all be solved once you start winning within the game. your team has to believe that they can win, if not just accept that its over, its also determinate how far ahead the other team.

toxicity tbh you can mute them and move forward, the bigger more important question is inting/afking issue still too big in ranked queues?

I would say it really does depend on who you get, but I definitely dont enjoy those players. those that int/afk to spite their team should have an automatic ban from ranked queues. the fact that players like this get away with this behavior blows my mind, cause all riot support really replies with is sorry I cannot disclose other player's information.

I really think whatever punishment that is there for inting/afk is either very low or nonexistent thats why you still see players in ranked queue doing it. cause ive played league for 6 seasons now and not ever have i ever even thought of/done intentionally feeding.

inting really disgusts me its saying ive given up, i dont like my teammates, so im gonna spite them waste their time and make them suffer the lp loss.

its also a call to new generation growing up with the internet knowing that they can troll people without punishment, society today says trolling someone gets you attention, bugs someone, or is funny to them.

Toxicity is on the rise because of Riot's decisions to change the game and how it is played. This change draws in people who are toxic. Also, their business decisions, as well as champion design and meta choices are creating and promoting more and more toxicity.
